View Full Version : Sony Infolithium battery issue
abfield
I have a Sony Infolithium battery on my Sony TRV33 camcorder. It's not the battery that comes with it, it's one of the larger models (forget the model number) but it's a Sony brand. Anyway, it's been working fine but the other day after shooting video for about an hour, there was still about 85% of the battery remaining. The next day when I took the camera out of the bag, I noticed that I must have left the camera on VCR. I figured the camera had an auto-off option but when I checked the battery it said it was at 0%. So, I just plugged it and left it for a very long time. The light went off as if the battery was charged. But when I checked the battery info, it said only 50%. What can I do to get it back working properly? I've had issues with these "smart" batteries before. Even thought they are fully charged they don't recognize that they are.
Thanks in advance.

PS - Sorry for posting this in the Battery group as well but that is the only post in there so I figured it wasn't a frequented group so I posted here as well.

The battery group is just a couple of days old. I'll move this in there though!
I hope that your battery hasn't been damaged. LithiumIon batteries are severely damaged by overdischarging. I'd go ahead and use your battery until the camcorder quits, then try to charge it up again and see if it holds more.

You didn't happen to buy this battery off ebay from somebody in Hong Kong did you?
If so it might very well be a fake battery
I have two paper weights that I mistakely bought off ebay thinking they were the real deal (excellent job at making them look like Sonys) only to have them crap out a few months after buying them.

Actually I did. They look pretty darn good to me, it even has the sony logo on the back. The first one I got worked great at first but then after the first charge it showed 0% every time. I contacted him and he took it back and sent me this one which has worked fine until now. I'm going to try the resistor trick and see if I can save it. I guess lesson learned.

I tried draining the battery in the camera and then recharging a few times and that didn't work. I tried draining it using a resistive load. It got hot and drained all the way but it will still only recharge to about 55%. I tried this three times. I guess I learned my lesson to stop buying electronics on eBay from Hong Kong. The packaging and everything looks very real. I should find my old eBay receipts and see who I bought it from and report them to eBay but I'm sure eBay has larger fish to fry.
