View Full Version : New user - dumb question re: optura 400

I'm finally upgrading from my (heavyweight) Sony D8 camera. I've been happy with that camera - it's just that the camera gets very heavy as vacations get longer. :)

Optura 400 looks good to me. Dumb questions.
1) is there a wide angle lens available as an option?
2) is there a lens cover? (option or included?) Couldn't see anything on this.
3) I will want to copy my D8 into MiniDV. Obviously I have a firewire that I got with my Sony. Can I just attach the firewire from the Sony into the Canon? If not, suggestions?
4) are firewire cables standard? Can I use my Sony cable to connect the Canon to my PC?

Thanks
Doug

Added later.
Can't see how I play back to TV. (analog out) What ports are available?
Also, what ports are used for analog in (pass through from VCR to PC). Can't see that either.

Again - I apologize for the dumb questions. I did look at the Canon site before posting here.

1)Yes, there is a wide angle lens available, 30.5 mm, I thik Sony's would fit too.
2)Yes, you get one in the box
3)Fireware cables are standard, they ara cheap too. Opturas has A>D pass trough, so you can convert your analog tapes either to tape or PC.
4)There is two types of FW cables: 6-4 and 6-6 (type of conector on each end of the cable-number of "pins")
And for playback on a TV there is S-video and composite (chinch) connectors.
The same ones are for A>D pass trough. Anything you think of, this camera has !
By the way, go for 500, or even 300, both has better LCD (good for controling things are always in sharp focus).

Good luck.
