View Full Version : Films, Movies, Documentaries made with Trv900 and/or Trv950

Digidude
Hello,

I may have the opportunity to shoot a one to two hour documentary about at-risk youth programs in urban areas. I recently purchased a TRV950 and as I approach the producers, I would like to be able to tell them about other films made with this camera so that they have faith in this equipment.

1) So if you know of any films that have received moderate or better attention made with these cameras, please let me know.

2) Also, do you think this camera is suitable for this kind of up close and personal film?

3) Low lighting issues aside, could I get away with just a two man team - me on the camera and other guy holding boom?

4) Finally, what microphones/sound package do you guys recommend for shooting documentaries? And what extra sound equipment, (i.e. XLR adapters, or an input box to monitor sound etc) should I purchase.

I am new to this camera and to this group and I apologize in advance if some of my questions have been answered on the forum already. I appreciate all your responses.
Thanks,

Oscar

I havent posted here in a while! But the Sony TRV950 is ideal for the use you specified! One being its size its not as intimidating as its larger 3CCD cousins. People seem to think of it as a regular camcorder and so do the police as its small size is perfect for street use.
I use mine with a Beachtech DXA-6 XLR adapter and am able to use standard microphones for interviews. As for low light I always use a 15 watt light if possible. The Sony TRV950 is the idea camcorder for guerilla street documentaries. You can see my past threads on my usesage and it is now being used for music videos and club dancer DVDs.

I fully second that post above. There are many docs made with trv900-950. However if you think about going to DVD, you may look rather on Canon or vx1000-2000. The difference is visible on a DVD, vx seems to have better dynamics.
