I got tired of waiting for Panasonic to bring out new GS400s so I finally decided to go with the Sony HC1000. I'm buying 2 because I shoot live events, concerts and whatnot.
In case anyone is wondering where the GAIN is on this camera, it is a part of the EXPOSURE bar.
In the Digital8 forum here, someone posted that on SONY cameras that have 24 step "exposure bars", instead of F-stop readings, the last 6 are full open iris with varying levels of gain: 3db, 6db, 9db, 12db, 15db and 18db.
