Depth of Field

I plan on upgrading from a GL2 to the XL2 for, why else, the 24p. The film quality is very important to me. However the most important thing to me, as far as visual quality, is depth of field. And digital cameras have lousy range of DoF. (Frankly, there's too much.)

What am I looking at with the XL2? I had hoped the XL lens system might make a difference.
