Sony TRV318 Help (confused)

Ok so I ahve a Sony Handycam TRV318 and I want to know the cheapest way to transfer the video from my Hi8 tapes to my pc.
Alot of other things I read have confused me quite a bit.

There are a variety of ways to convert your analog tapes to digital format:

1. You can get a capture card or a capture box. There are a variety of units available. Here is a comprehensive list that shows what is available:

2. If you have a digital camcorder many will allow you to record from your analog camera to the digital camcorder and then transfer that digitized video to a computer.

3. Some digital camcorders have what is called "Pass Through" which will allow you to play your analog video through a digital camcorder to a computer via Firewire.

4. There are some standalone DVD Recorders which will accept analog video as well as digit data from various devices such as camcorders, vcr's, TV's etc.
