View Full Version : Transfering video with surround

Ekendahl
Hello,

I have just bought a DCR-PC1000E. I have also bought the sorround microphone ECM-HQP1. So, now I have a camera and a microphone that are able to handle 4.1 sound. In my ignorence I then thought that I would be able to transfer my surround video from my rather expensive equipment to a pc and start making my first home-made 5.1 DVDs, but no. From what I understand I must first also by a Sony computer with "Click 2 DVD" before I can do this (sigh!)...... Does anyone know of a way to do this without also having to by a Sony computer?!

Ekendahl, You don't have to buy a Sony computer with "Click 2 DVD". I'm not sure of the exact process to transfer the 5.1 sound properly. There is software capable of doing it, I just do not have the actual experience. You might look/ask in the HC90 or possible the DVD403 forum to see the best way to handle it.

Thanks Poncho,

Searching this site I came up with Scenalyser that are able to do the extraction. However I think that if you buy equipment that boasts of producing surround (4 channel) sound, utilities to use that sound - preferably a program to produce 5.1 DVDs - or at least means of transfer the sound to your computer should be included in the package. There is no way in h-ll 4 channel sound stuck in the camcorder can make any consumer happy.... It’s like if you by a 40.000$ car, and when you are to drive it for the first time you find out it comes with no keys.
Surprised (not) salesman - "Oh, did you want keys for your car?! You can by them from us for 20.000$ each"

I have a PC1000 and always use Sony Vegas for capture/editing.
I know this can handle 5.1 soundtracks(and edit/add effects) but I have never captured 5.1 from camcorder as I do not have the mic.

Yes, Sony Vegas does handle editing and inclusion of 5.1 sound to a video-stream. However it can not extract it from the camcorder. So if you from Sony by the following:
1 Sony DCR-PC1000E camera (that handles 4.0)
1 Sony ECM-HQP1 mic (that handles 4.0)
1 Sony Vegas program (that handles 5.1)
you can still(!!!!!) only ever hear stereo sound! I don't want to sound pissed but I have to admit it - I am...

I am not the right person to judge the overall quality of the camera (since this is my first camcorder) but I am pretty sure that competitors like Canon and so on can produce equal quality equipment. I was in a rush this time buying the stuff (expecting our first child soon) but I think that the next time I by a camcorder I will try to investigate these things a bit more. I have been working with computers for more then 20 years, so I will find ways to extract what I want from this camera. I am more feeling sorry for other consumers that do not have the knowledge to find their way around internet to solve things like this.
I think that my point here is – when you by a camera, the absolute minimum of functionality one should be entitled to expect is means of extracting what the camera can produce. Most packages would also include f.i. programs to edit video and so on.
