View Full Version : PC350 with MSD-1 stereo mic / zoom ?

high-flight
Hi all
Does anyone have experience of using the Sony ECM-MSD1 stereo mic
with the PC350 camera ?
I understand from various other older threads that this mic is pretty good, with a choice of 90/120 deg. patterns... but I just want to know catergorically that when this mic is used, the internal mic is switched out. I don't like the sound of the 'zoom' feature, (which mixes the internal and accessory shoe mics together, in varying amounts depending on the amount of zoom used at the camera lens), which some mics use on sony cams.
I wonder if the zoom feature is only there depending on which particular cam this mic, MSD-1, is used on ?

My typical filming is just personal diary, ambient, cityscape, day-trips, etc, and I feel stereo will add a lot more spatial reality to the soundtrack.
I also find that when I talk to my filmed subjects, who are typically 3 or 4 metres away, the internal mic mostly pics up my voice at the camera and very little of my subject !
as an ex-pro sound engineer, I find this upsetting !!

any thoughts you can share will be most welcome
