View Full Version : Help Extracting Video (VOB) from DVD-R

I have a Panasonic DVD Camcorder, VDR-M70, and have recorded most of my video on DVD-RAM. I have been successful in downloading these files to my computer, converting them to dv format, and creating a DVD using iMovie and IDVD on the Mac.

However, one of my videos was recorded on a DVD-R disc. I thought the conversion process would be similar, but I am having a very hard time extracting the VOB files to my hard drive. I have tried just copying the file, as well as trying to open up the file using Mpeg Streamclip. The Panasonic MovieAlbum s/w does not recognize the DVD-R files. I have done multiple searches for other types of s/w but I don't really want to pay for s/w just to extract 13 minutes of video, and I'm not even sure it would work...

Any thoughts/solutions?

Thanks!

You can just copy the VOB file to your hard drive and change the extension to MPG. Try bringing that file into your editing software. The audio may be in AC3 format. If so, go to www.videohelp.com and get a file converter. You can recombine the video and audio using editing software.

Ah, just re-read your post and see you are using a Mac. You should be able to do the same thing but may need some special tools for the Mac to deal with the audio.

OK...So everytime I tried to just copy the video to my HD, I got an error message, "Error copying file or folder. Cannot copy VTS_01_1: Data error (cyclical redundancy check)".

I did a google search and found a free sw that transfers files from DVD/CD which have these errors, and it worked! The SW is AnyReader. I found another sw program that worked as well which cost $25.95, IsoBuster. I am so relieved!...Now in the process of editing the video through IMovie...

Thanks!
