View Full Version : Glidecam Mount Available?
Rami7007
I recently won an ebay auction for the Glidecam 1000 Pro for $61 as I cannot afford the Glidecam 2000 at this time. It seems as if the Gildecam, from the picture, does not have the complete top mount that comes with the glidecam normally. I have not recieved the Glidecam yet but it seems this way from the images. Does anyone know if there is any way to buy a Glidecam mount separately from somewhere?
Heres a link to the auction:

Will some one take a look at the images and tell me if I am correct about this being missing, and if so, if it is possible to buy a mount somewhere?
Thanks.

Its a shame you bought this when you could have gone here and got a new one
http://stores.ebay.co.uk/DV-Shop23
this crowd seem to make what people want cheap especially their mic blimps =) and the flycam arm brace and shoulder straps are thrown in free costs a fortunes these do for the glide cam - this is the EXACT same model - glide cam look out flycam is the cheap way to go x

I did see the Flycam before i bought the Glidecam 1000 Pro and have looked at many options. The Flycam is cheaper and a good deal for what you get but i still dont have that much money to spend. I went with the Glidecam because i got it for only 61 dollars.
Has anyone found out if i can buy a mount?

i guess the obvious place to begin would be glidecam themselves
BUT DO NOT SAY YOU BOUGHT IT SECOND HAND/USED
as they may be uncooperative just say some years ago i purchased this item from store when i was on holiday ;)
this means you cant go back to the store and have supported the sale of a new item from THEM ;)
then say you lost the plate when on holiday or on a trip if you say you damaged it then they may suggest a way to fix it :P
then see if they can recommend a solution i think they maybe more helpful like this chances are its a standard setting and fitments
if you want a Jury rig solution buy a LONG SLIDING VIDEO QUICK RELEASE MOUNT AND DRILL A HOLE IN THE PLATE AND SCREW IT IN PLACE EXACTLY IN THE MIDDLE OF THE TOP BALANCE IT AND MARK IT BEST YOU CAN WITH SELLOTAPE AS YOU CAN HOLD IT OUT THEN MOVE IT RE STICK IT ETC UNTIL YOU ARE HAPPY
then drill a hole and used a 3/8 tripod screw to bolt the quick release plate in position then mount your camera after that slide the camera backwards and forwards on the QR Plate and secure it when you are happy - you may have to afix washers to the under side of the plate for critical balancing but use GAFFER TAPE as thats easier to shift about and its black TH UV joint is the most important part and you already have that
here is an idea for a sliding qr mount but i am sure you could find something cheaper :)
hope this helps
something like the manfrotto 501 or

http://www.adorama.com/BG3272.html?sid=11507951323626104
but a metz flash bracket for a still camera is just as good

ps i would do this even with the new glidecam camera brackets as this system is a nightmare to take the camera off once balanced as it has loads of screws so a qr makes sense for everyone :)
glide cam should do this as standard but perhaps they would probably have to pay manfrotto for the rights and may not wanna do that ;) :(

Thank you so much surfwidow for your suggestion. I think i could probably do something similar to this and it seems it would work just as well because you are still just sliding the camera backwards and forwards on the plate.
One question though, doesn't the glidecam allow for sliding the plate from side to side?
And thanks again for your help.
surfwidow
well the logicall thing to do would be to buy another second sliding QR plate and bolt it to the first but across like a crucifix cross shape as that would slide it side to side too :) ;)
a bit nutty looking but it would work lol
or simply tape with gaffa tape large penny washers underneath the plate
let me know how you get on
