View Full Version : UDF 2.0 issue with DZ-MV750MA
des234
I am trying to copy the files from my 1.4GB DVD-RAMs onto my PC so I can have them in MPEG-2 format to then use the software that came with the camera to create my own DVDs. However, when I insert my finalized discs into into my DVD drive on my laptop, the DVD-MovieAlbumSE 4.2 software that I have refuses to recognize these discs. It seems as though when I formatted these discs using the camera itself, it did it as UDF 1.0, and the MovieAlbumSE Copy Tool tells me it only supports UDF 2.0!!
This seems preposterous that the camera would format the discs in a manner incompatible with its own software. Is there any other 3rd party software anyone can recommend that I can use to get the video off of my DVD-RAMs into MPEG-2 on my laptop to I can use MovieAlbumSE and DVDfunStudio to do what i want with my recordings?
Additionally, the software called DVDForm that comes as part of the DVDRAM Driver suite tells me that it can't even read the blank DVD-RAM discs that I am inserting in order to format them properly in the UDF 2.0 way that MovieAlbumSE wants!! ARRRGH!
I really like the camera, it very easy to use and very portable, but all of these software issues are starting to turn me off to Hitachi. How can they make their own products incompatible with each other? WTF!??!

Hi
What happens if you put the miniDVD-RAM into your PC's DVD drive and open windows explorer?
Are you able to see various folders and files(some with extension .VRO) on the disk? If yes, are you able to copy them onto your harddisk?
If you can't see any files at all then I assume that your PC's DVD-drive does not support reading DVD-RAM media.

Thanks for the reply!
When I insert my DVD-RAM discs into my DVD drive, I can watch them no problem using CyberLink's PowerDVD software. I am unsure about browsing the disc using Windows Explorer, but I do recall that the disc was labeled by Windows as DVD_CAMERA when I had Windows Explorer open last night. I'll check again when I get home after work, but I would assume since PowerDVD can play the disc that the PC supports DVD-RAMs, right?

Ok, please do this test.
If you could see DVD_CAMERA then this sounds that you can see the files as well.
Try to copy them all onto your harddisk.
Once this is done, you need to convert the files with extension .VRO to mpeg2 files.
Programs that I know that support VRO files are:
TMPGEnc DVD AUthor
VideoRedo
Womble Video Wizard
I don't know whether DVDMovieAlbum supports them.

So when I look athe files on my DVD_RAM, I see two folders: video_ts and dvdcam. In the video_ts folder, there are the folliwing files:
video_ts.bup
video_ts.ifo
video_ts.vob
vts_01_0.bup
vts_01_0.ifo
vts_01_1.vob
vts_01_2.vob
and in the dvdcam folder the only file is dvdcam.ifo. Unfortunately there are no .vro files. argh!

I could be wrong but I believe when you finalize the disc then it creates a basic dvd which has the video ts/vob file structure.
I assume what you want to do is put the video on your PC as either vro or mpeg files so you can edit them and burn your own dvd. I would try hooking the camera to your PC with USB (provided it has usb hookup I have a 550A and not your model) and then see if windows can see the files and download the vro files then using a program such as womble or tempgenc edit or convert the vro to mpeg. (Womble Video wizard reads the vro and is a great lttle editor).
If you cannot do that then you could try converting your vob files from your finalized disc to mpeg using VOB2MPEG program, but you might lose some quality with this method

Hi
I always thought that DVD-RAM only have a VRO-filestructure but in your case all files inside video_ts seems to be a valid DVD-R structure.
Again, programs like TDA, Videoredo and even Nerovision should be able to read/import this filestructure.

OK, I will try connecting the camorder to my laptop and reading the files off the discs that way. However, would the fact that I have already finalized the disc allow me to see different types of files (.vro's vs. the ones I listed) than I see through windows explorer? I am hoping so, because I have already finalized like 6 discs and would be sad to know that i would have to use the VOB2MPEG program and possibly lose some quality. I'll check it out when I get home tonight.
I dont' wanna start ranting, but let me just say I find it VERY frustrating that Hitachi would not make this clear in their documentation. From the way I now understand it, their MovieAlbum SE software is basically uselss if you finalize a disc using my model camera. That is totally ridiculous.
