View Full Version : Need help finding remote lens
David S
Hi all,
I have 2 cameras that would be the potential host for the lens, a Sony DVD cam (Model DCR-DVD92) and a Panasonic MiniDV cam (Model PV-GS31). I have pretty much ruled out the Sony, seeing as how there is no input/output capabilities with it. I am looking for something that I can use in recreation, as I dont have a motorcycle..... just looking for some cool shots while camping and all that good stuff. I have looked at www.joescam.tv and www.viosport.com, and I dont know if I am heading in the right direction with all of this, so I am yielding to people that more than likely have a greater knowledge than me in this area. Any and all help is greatly appreciated.

David S, I'm not sure what your question is. But I do not believe the Panasonic PV-GS31 has analog inputs, at least not according to the manual.

I really want the ability to see downrange when I am sighting my rifle in, so I figure a cool way to do that would be to mount a lipstick cam to my rifle (while recording with my camcorder). I know getting some binoculars would be the easy way..... but there is only so much you can see when you get to 300+ meters.... and if I am going to spend a bunch of money I might as well do it the cool way.
What about a MiniDV input? The manual online here (http://www2.panasonic.com/webapp/wcs/stores/servlet/vModelDetail?storeId=15001&catalogId=13401&itemId=88740&modelNo=PV-GS31&cacheProgram=11002&cachePartner=7000000000000005702&surfModel=PV-GS31&catGroupId=25203&surfCategory=Camcorders%20with%20SD&displayTab=S) states something about MiniDV IN/OUT.... is that an option?
EDIT: Here (http://www.sonystyle.com/is-bin/INTERSHOP.enfinity/eCS/Store/en/-/USD/SY_DisplayProductInformation-Start;sid=DFxgfAG-Q_NhvkVa2uFqd06z7a2LsylXfew=?CategoryName=dcc_outlet_camcorders&ProductSKU=DCRDVD92%2fBSTOCK&TabName=specs&var2=) is the Sony tech specs.... is there a better option there? I see that there is a LANC Terminal, I dont really know what that means but reading on another board about helmet cams.... it is apparently a necessity.

The Sony DCR-DVD92 DVD camcorder does not have analog inputs either, their spec sheet says:
Video Input/Output: No/Yes (multi A/V)
Audio Input/Output: No/Yes (Stereo, Multi)
I highlighted it.
Neither does the Panasonic it says: Analog In/Out Out only
The "Mini DV In/Out IEEE1394 In/Out " is the Firewire/IEEE1394/i.Link terminal. You can not connect an analog video source to it.
All MiniDV camcorders have "AV" or "A/V" outputs; but not all of them have "AV" or "A/V" inputs;
This is a list of recent MiniDV NTSC model camcorders which have analog inputs. This does not mean that it does have what is commonly called "Pass Through" but without the analog inputs you can not have "Pass Through". The ones which show "Pass Through" after the model appear to have the feature. This list is by no means complete and I certainly may have made an error somewhere:
Canon GL2 (Analog-Digital Converter)
Canon Elura 80 "Pass Through" (Analog-Digital Converter)
Canon Elura 85 "Pass Through" (Analog-Digital Converter)
Canon Elura 90 "Pass Through" (Analog-Digital Converter)
Canon Elura 100 "Pass Through" (Analog-Digital Converter)
Canon Optura 30 "Pass Through"
Canon Optura 40 "Pass Through"
Canon Optura 50 "Pass Through"
Canon Optura 60 "Pass Through"
Canon Optura 400 "Pass Through"
Canon Optura 500 "Pass Through"
Canon Optura 600 "Pass Through"
Canon ZR40 "Pass Through"
Canon ZR200 "Pass Through"
Canon ZR300 "Pass Through"
Canon ZR700 "Pass Through" (Analog-Digital Converter)
JVC GR-D70
JVC GR-D90
Panasonic PV-GS200 "Pass Through"
Panasonic PV-GS250 "Pass Through"
Panasonic PV-GS400 "Pass Through"
Panasonic AG-DVC30 Analog/digital (AD) conversion
Sony DCR-TRV22
Sony DCR-TRV33
Sony DCR-HC32
Sony DCR-HC40 "Pass Through"
Sony DCR-HC42 "Pass Through"
Sony DCR-HC90 "Pass Through"
Sony DCR-HC96 "Pass Through"
Sony DCR- VX2100 "Pass Through"
I would consider the Sony DCR-HC96 which is a good MiniDV camcorder.

Yea, I saw that. I didnt know if there was any other way to get around that. Oh well, I am not going to go out and buy another camcorder for this, just trying to explore options with it all. I definately appreciate your research.
