View Full Version : HELP! Video Studio 8 Audio problems
smilincowgurl
So I'm not very practiced when it comes to editing and creating DVDs. I purchased a Video 8 studio and have really enjoyed it so far. I can connect my camera through the USB cord and transfer the videos. I think they are in mpeg-2 format? When I open the video in windows player there is sound but the video plays distorted. When I open it in Video 8 it plays fine but there is no sound. I went through and edited the clips and saved it as a video project. Then I made a dvd with various projects. It took FOREVER but I got it done, except now there is no sound :-( Can anyone please give me some pointers?! I have spent hours just trying to make some home videos. I would really Appreciate anything!

Smilincowgurl, to start off you really need to tell us what the model of your camcorder is. I have no idea what format your video originated in (MiniDV, DVD, Hard Drive camcorder, Memory based camcorder etc...)
Standard DVD's use the MPEG2 format.

Rich,
Thanks for getting back to me, sorry for not giving you all the information. My camera is a sony handycam dcr-dvd403. It puts the videos on a mini dvd but i transfer the videos from the camera with a usb cord. Hope that is the right information...

Yep, that helps. I can't help you but the people in the DVD403 Forum can. I'm moving this thread to the proper Forum.

VS8 is now two versions old, VS10Plus is the latest version. I really hope you didn't pay too much for VS8! You cam records in dolby 5:1 sound. Support for Dolby built in to VS was not introduced until VS9 and that was for Dolby Stereo. VS10 Plus has built in support for Dolby Stereo and 5:1 Surround sound. The easiest solution here is to register your version of VS8 on the Ulead website and upgrade at a discount to VS10 Plus.
If you don't want t odo that you can google for a "free AC-3 codec" which will allow you to hear the sound but you will not be able to output anything with Dolby sound as that codec is licensed. Essentially the freebie is only a decoder. (AC-3 is the old name of the Dolby codec before Dolby bought it.).
