I have never used the Velbon DV-7000, but do own the Velbon Videomate 607 tripod. I have been very pleased with the 607, using it with a 3 pound camcorder. The fluid head is very smooth. The only downside is the head is not quite as stable when the center column is elevated. It works better having the column lowered when possible.

The DV-7000, you are considering, weighs 7.5 lbs. compared to 4.5 lbs. for the Videomate 607. If you like the extra weight, the DV-7000 would be a better choice.

Based upon my experience with the 607, you probably would be satisfied with the DV-7000 if your camera does not exceed the load capacity.

This is exactly what I use and I've had nothing but wonderful results up this point using it with my AG-DVC30
