View Full Version : Previewing your trimming
omega2
Hello. I'm accustomed to using Pinnacle Studio Plus 10 for my editing, but since getting a HDD camera that uses MPEG2 format recording, I've tried Ulead due to it's 'smart renderer'.
One of the biggest drawbacks, for me, is the lack of a preview when trimming clips. In Pinnacle the preview screen shows me where I'm making my cut. In Ulead I'm literally in the dark, it shows a black screen, forcing you to cut using the timer. So, is there a setting that I can change to allow me to trim scenes using the preview box??

Yikes! Kudos to you for even being able to make the cuts using the timing...I'm impressed!
VS should definitely not be doing that. First go to File|Preferences|General and look down to the "Instant playback target" entry. Select "Preview Window" and see how that goes.

I did what you said, no difference, Perhaps I haven't explained myself clearly. In the picture below, see the grey line? That line is marks where the cut will be (i.e. it will trim all the footage before the line, and the video will begin where that line is). Unfortunetely the preview screen is blank while doing this, it doesn't show me what is there where the grey line is.
In Pinnicle, the preview screen shows me exactly where I am visually, wherever I move that grey line.

On the picture you posted there is a triangular shape sitting under the first two zeros of the "00.00.00.00" drag that to where you want to make the cut. Also be sure you are in "clip" mode as that is what you are doing, editing a clip. Changing the clip will change the project.

Absolutely perfect! And so simple a solution! I've been doing it the wrong way. Like you say, the triangle shows me where I am.
Thank you. :D

Omega,
See HD Tutorial for Video Studio 10+ at http://phpbb.ulead.com.tw/EN/viewtopic.php?t=13872
Note that you can also use the controls (jog control, vernier, scissors...) that are directly under the preview window, which will let you do frame-accurate cuts - (you have to select the video clip in the timeline that you want to edit).
