View Full Version : Panny D300 vs Sony 505/405/

Hi all, great forum!
Need some help deciding. I have done some research and read the reviews and narrowed my choice to the above. The low light performance of the Panny concerns me. How does it shoot indoors?? I need to take videos of my 1 yr old son destroying the house - nothing fancy. Cost would be a consideration but I would be willing to pay more for better performance. Which one would yourecommend? The Pany 300 or the Sony 505/405??? Thanks in advance.

Hi
In my opinion the D300 has the better video performance at daylight but I would go with one of the Sonys because of the better low-light performance that you would need if you don't want to blind your son with an external light. According to the reviews the 405 is recommended over the 505 as long as you don't need the higher resolution for still pictures. So I would go with the DVD405 but that's just my opinion.

Thanks sektionschef. Anybody else have experience with these cams? What would be a good online store to buy these - with a return policy??

Sony vs. Panny.... From a new member
Haven't seen any follow-up on the model you finally settled on to chronicle the destruction of your house by your young artist.

Hello mdxc90,
Sorry I forgot which model exactly I am talking about.
Let me try... Better go with built-in lamp in the camcorder. This will really help to increase brightness on subject. But anyway, there is feature "Exposure compensation" in Panasonic to make subject brighter, in the other hand this will make background even brighter. So built-in lamp is much more better.
And if you need to have timestamp in your home video, Panasonic cannot help you, except downloading manual via Audio Video just like miniDV. I heard that Sony is capable to show timestamp, but no sure.
