View Full Version : TRV-22 Really bad image and Lines

I think my cameras dead. This is about what I get as far as image goes. Tape plays back fine, everything else, zoom in zoom out, etc. Just terrible picture. Looks like pay per view when you don't pay.

Any suggestions. Purchased about 2 years ago from techforless.com worked fine until recently.

Thanks for suggestions.

Hi zach,

Have you tried a Cleaner Tape run thru ??

harold,

I don't think it has anything to do with the tape deck since it's not a problem recording or playing back tape. Even with no tape in the deck, if i turn on the camera and put it in video or picture mode, I get that non-picture on the lcd or viewfinder.

With your description of the problem, leads me to believe it's a CCD problem. The posted picture is similar to what's in the Sony Alert Bulletin. Sony will fix it free until 3/07. You can visit this Sony site for more info:

Thank you for your support and patronage of Sony products.

It has come to our attention that a limited number of products, manufactured prior to March 2004, that incorporate a certain type of image sensor device (CCD) may exhibit the following:

* When the product is used in camera mode, the LCD panel and/or electronic viewfinder exhibits either a distorted image or no image at all.

We have determined that this only occurs in a limited number of devices, but may be accelerated if they are exposed to hot and humid environments.

From October 3, 2005 through October 2, 2007, Sony will repair, free of charge, affected products exhibiting the above-mentioned problem where it is caused by the image sensor device. Sony will also cover the cost of shipping and handling from and to addresses within the United States and US Territories for service to correct this issue.

IMPORTANT NOTE: For information regarding the proposed settlement of a class-action lawsuit related to this issue, please visit http://sonystyle.com/ccdsettlement

Any update to your possible CCD problem? I just checked my TRV-22 that I bought back in April 03 and it still works great.

zach
JayDeath,

I followed the directions of the Sony Support link given in this thread. They gave me a UPS shipping label to print. I sent the camera and received it back is less than a week. The camera is working great now.

I have given full marks to their support and repair staff.

This is so awesome. During my family vacation at the end of Dec I pulled out my trusty TRV22 and it sudedn became the not-so-trusty TRV22. I have the same problem.

I am glad I checked here and found this thread. I just got my EVENT ID number from Sony and I am sending in the camera. I am very glad to hear you got it back so quickly. I have need of the camera in early Feb.
