Hello,
I am in the process of researching which camera to purchase to shoot my first feature-film. The movie will almost solely consist of indoor scenes (3-4 people in a living room talking or 2 people talking in the front seat of a car). Accordingly, I have also been looking at lenses - to allow me to get the widest FOV possible.
Unfortunately, I am now a little confused about the differences between an Anamorphic Widescreen lens and a Wide Angle lens.
Originally I was looking at the Sony VX2100. Since it doesn't do true 16:9 itself, it was suggested that I pickup the Century Precision Optics Widescreen Adapter (http://www.bhphotovideo.com/bnh/controller/home?O=productlist&A=details&Q=&sku=212878&is=REG) lens (made specifically for that model).
However, recently, due to budgetary concerns, I have started to look more seriously at the Panasonic GS500. With that model, I have seen recommendations (http://www.pana3ccduser.com/showthread.php?t=790) to get the Raynox HD-6600 Wide Angle Converter (http://www.bhphotovideo.com/bnh/controller/home?O=productlist&A=details&Q=&sku=394720&is=REG&addedTroughType=search) lens (52mm).
From what I understand, Wide Angle lenses can lead to "barrel distortion" or "fisheye" (i.e. a distortion of the picture). But Widescreen lenses simply increase the FOV horizontally...
I don't want any "barrel distortion" effects (obviously some people want that fisheye look); all I want is the widest possible FOV.
So, I suppose I have three questions:
1) Do I understand correctly the differences between Wide Angle and Widescreen lenses?
2) Can you get a Widescreen lens that would work (well) with the Panasonic GS500?
3) If #2 is valid, since the GS500 is already "true" widescreen, how does it make it even more widescreen? (least important out of the 3 questions)
Many thanks,
Red
