578life
Hi,
I'm trying to find a wide angle lens for my DCR-TRV33E.
I'm looking at filming close up shots of people indoors (eg adult scenes).
The only lens I have been able to find is
30mm 0.45X WIDE LENS (http://cgi.ebay.com.au/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&ih=008&item=180045324522&rd=1&sspagename=STRK%3AMEWA%3AIT&rd=1)
can someone please give me some more info on getting a wide angle lens for this camcorder... i live between australia and thailand so i would like to purchase a lens in either of those countries.
thanks

I shouldn't think, it makes any diffference whether it's a PAL or NTSC version of wide angle lens as long as it's a 30mm filter size because wide angle lens reduces the focal length by that factor. This should give you more options in your selection. I have Sony VCL-0630 S 30mm 0.6X. Smaller the factor scale, WA lens creates a larger field of view. However, for me this is the least used accesory for my camcorder. It's my experience that if you try to fit a large field of view there is a trade off. You'll lose much of the details (as if you are looking at a video in 36" full screen with 21" screen). WA lenses are effective for taking in a scenic view in a single frame, such as a tall building or a panoramic view. If the subject is more important than the background view, I find using the panning method often is better for details and framing the video composition.
If you intend to use a step down ring to accomodate your 30mm fiter size; the Trv-33 will be no longer compact nor light for travel. For stability and balance, you'll often need tripods to shoot videos. Additionally, you also must be aware of the barrel distortion, which may occur for wide angle lenses:

Finally, you must be also aware of good wide angle lenses and not so good ones, which are less than satisfactory substitutes.
