(this should go to another forum but it's to do with the DVC30 as well)
Ok so here I am enjoying the quality of the videos the DVC30 is giving me but my post production process I normally use isn't working out to give me the best I think it should.
I'm hoping someone can point me in the right direction..
Here's what I need to do and how I do it:
I shoot the video with the vid cam and using Premiere 6.5, I transfer the video to HDD. I do my editing, cuts trans and titling within Premiere 6.5.
I then export the edited version to "MOVIE" using the AVI best setting (gah, can't remember what it's called exactly).
I then export to DVD settings High Bitrate to end up with a .mv2 file that TemGenc (?) can author to DVD for me. This is my DVD end product.
I reload the AVI movie, and export to tape to make a Master MiniDV for archival purposes. I USED to export the edited project to tape but the rendering process was just as long again but the MOVIE avi file is already edited so it only needs to be recorded to tape, saving a step I used to do.. End results are the same..
The MOVIE file then gets loaded into MS Movie Maker and converted to 786 kps WMV for website downloads. Results are ok. I tried various settings with the Adobe MPEG exporter but couldn't get anything to work that would look good at a reasonable file size. The method I use I get a useable 50 minute video file for around 300 megs or so. Quality is good enough for web use.
The videos in DVD come out crisp and clear, but the WMV files could be crisper and clearer. Like I mentioned, I've not gotten any complaints on the quality vs size ratio but I know it could be better as I've seen other production work in the same field come out much nicer.
I'm not much of a power user or able to delve deep into the docs due to time constraints and lack of local knowledge base so I end up having to learn by trial and error and stick with what works best.
If you have any ideas or advice or see something I'm doing that should be changed, let me know, I'm open to changes to get a better looking video..
