View Full Version : Copy DVD to DV

skillsforchange
Our agency just purchased a Panasonic PVGS180. An employee used the camera to produce some great DVDs for us.

Unfortunately, he left and with him he took the DV tapes and erased the computer files that were created from them.

Is it possible to use an AV cable, connect it to the video out and L/R audio out of a regualr DVD player, plug the cable into the camcorder, and record the DVD to DV tape?

From the tape, we can re-edit the material.

Thanks.

Hi
There is no need to put the video from the DVD back on a new tape to edit the video. Instead just convert the video from the DVD to DV-avi and import the DV-avi into your editing sw.
To do this first install the free panasonic dv-codec(http://www.free-codecs.com/download/Panasonic_DV_Codec.htm).
Then download the freeware virtualdub-mpeg2(http://fcchandler.home.comcast.net/stable/index.html)
Load the VOB file from the DVD into virtualdub and create a new DV-avi with it. This dv-avi file is identical to the the video file that you would get after capturing from a tape.
