View Full Version : Perminantly Removing Media from FCP Project

Chadfish
Hi

I am working on a project in FCP5 (of course). I imported these clips that were captured on another machine using FCP5. They were broken down into 2g chunks, so when I import it asks for the next chunk (labled: NameOfClip-v, NameOfClip-v-1, NameOfClip-v-2, etc). I imported these clips then they came up as one large clip on the timeline.

I edited that down to a smaller clip and exported an uncompressed QT file for my own use, then "cut" the original clips out of the timeline and browser. Everything seemed fine until I opened the project again today. Although all the clips are out of the project, FCP is asking for all the peices - making me search for each chunk one at a time before the project opens. Frustrating...

Is there a way to remove all this unused media from the project so this won't happen?

My project has a lot of edits in it and I don't want to start from scratch. Any help would be appreciated.

Thanks

Hi Chad,

What' you're looking for is the Media Manager (or mangler as some of us call it) File>Media Manager

It can be a very dangerous tool and it not perfect. A few people have had "issues" with it not performing as it should.

Read the manual to brush up so you know what you're getting into.
Basically you'll be "Using Existing Footage"
Unless you have a large hard drive where you can "Copy" -which is what I would do before nuking your original footage. If you haven't seen the new Lacie SATA TWO Big (http://www.dvcreators.net/lacie-2-big-sata-raid/) I'd take a strong look at that. Lacie just cut the price by $200

The biggy is "Delete Unused Media"
