Seaking
I've shot about 8 production videos with the DVC30 since first getting it the other month and though I was originally impressed with it over the Canon XI I replaced it with, but after the last two shoots I am VERY impressed!
After reading a lot of articles on here from expreienced users on the settings they use, I tweaked mine again and lo and behold, I found out I could do more with less on this camera.. You have gotta be kidding me =)
I do a lot of web content work for people at various locations and always have to lug strobes for photos and quartz lighting for the video. While at the last shoot, I still had the strobes up and just using the modeling lights from the strobes I flashed up the DVC30 to change one of the settings I read about (bad memory, the one that changes the contrast.. -7 setting) and yes, I could actually see the difference that made it just bold enough to tell but knew it was a nicer looking image through the eye peice than what I had before.
But the funny thing was, is that with just the house lights and modeling lights (35w bulbs to show you where the strobe flash will fall when triggered), the scene was properly illuminated, very little zebra and no motion blur to speak of.. In low low light, if you look through the view finder and swing the camera side to side (pan) you'll see the image jerk as it's trying to catch up.. But with just the bare minimum lighting, holy cow, the lighting was spot on, good shadows, good depth! All I needed to do was reset the CWB and boom.. what a difference!
I had previously used 2x 750W tri lights and these would sometimes over power the scene even when toned down etc.
The ONLY thing that disapoints me with this camera is that I didn't get it sooner, after it had come out onto the market, not just as its coming off the market..
But dayum!! =)
