View Full Version : Short film AG-HVX-200 P2

Hi there,
I'm currently thinking of using an AG-HVX-200 P2 for a series of short horror films. I'm really interested in getting a 'film look' and was wondering how easy it is with this camera.
Also, how does it fare in low light conditions?

And how does it compare to the Sony HDR-FX1 and the Canon XL2?

Thanks.
Dante

This company specialize in transfers of video to film and the Panasonic HVX200 is one of the cameras they recommend. Some good technical info here too.

It depends on what you consider low light conditions. By the standards this website uses to test consumer cameras, I'd say it does excellently. My HVX blows my Elura 100 out of the water when it comes to low light.

By the standards this site uses to test the prosumer cameras, however, it totally depends on how you have it set. There are many manual controls on the HVX that will allow you to tweak how it performs.

Honestly, this camera doesn't do as well as some of its competition in very low light scenarios. The Sony FX1 is much better in this area, for example.

However, the HVX is still an excellent all-around camera. It is easy to compensate for low light conditions when shooting a film, as you can simply add extra light, and adjust in camera or in post to achieve the desired effect. The HVX's low light issues really only come to play (in my opinion, anyway) when you are shooting news gathering or live events where you don't have the option to add any light.
