View Full Version : VDR-D250 - How To Show Time Stamp when playing recording result
twoace
Hello All,
I bought Panasonic VDR-D250 one month ago. First video was for my honeymoon.
Now I am trying to edit the movie.
When I tried to playback using PowerDVD, I couldn't see any timestamp on it. But I could see it when playing on the device VDR-D250.
Anybody knows how to show timestamp?
One more question, anybody know which software to edit movie that can show timestamp? I really need this feature for our memories. :(
I am very disappointed with this.
I already try to use dvdate, but it can only use for avi. VDR-D250 will only give result mpeg after exporting from DVD-MovieAlbumSE.
I was thinking that DVD camcorder will make life easier, but now not for timestamp. :(
Any sharing? I will be really appreacite that.
Thanks in advance.

twoace,
I have not recieved my VDR-D300 yet, but on my Sony DVD405 you have to turn on the subtitle to display the date-time stamp.
Try turning on the subtitle on PowerDVD, see if it displays.
You may have to use the RCA-out and do an analog capture. This is what I have to do with my old Sony TRV340 as the DTS will not export via USB or Firewire (with firewire it is there, just not displayed).
Like I said, I'm still waiting for my Panny.

hello mooreapi,
i just tried to take a look. no subtitle. :(
well, you're right that analog capture can be an alternative. :)
but that would be pain in the a**. and what's for dvd camcorder...
it should make life easier, and that's why i chose dvd camcorder rather than minidv cam.
vdr-d300... i wish i bought that, ois and leica lens feature. unfortunately i have no budget for it. but now, i don't consider dvd camcorder anymore.
home video camera should have time stamp on it *in my opinion*.
thanks for your reply.

Hey twoace,
I hear ya about DTS.
I hope that the D300 DOES have DTS display becuase I am a PI and my videos have to go to court, DTS is a requirement.
I hope I'm not going to have to send it back after waiting so long already.

Do you mean DTS -> Date Time Stamp?
I guess that D300 doesn't have DTS complete feature the same as D250. Remember complete feature (direct stamp to the recording).
Cam will have timestamp during recording, but you will only see when playback using the cam.
I already tried to use Panasonic software. Yes, the software can gather the timecode (timestamp) of the recording, but only information. It's not possible to attach directly to the screen.
I guess there are 2 alternatives:
1. recording (capture) again by analog. this is very bad idea. so what is DVD camcorder for. it's better to get miniDV cam, same price and more feature.
2. using third party software to have the time stamp on the recording. it's very bad idea. decode, put a stamp, encode, and whatever it is. it consumes a lot of time, need to have good computer. :(
last of all, beside the quality, i am not happy. i forgot to consider about this feature. really.

Twoace,
I finally received my D300. I am disappointed, I have had the same results as you, NO date/time stamp(DTS) is displayed when a disc player played the disc (no option for subtitle) and only shows date when played on the camera (and out through AV cable). It does display the date and time the clip was started on the thumbnail menu during playback mode, and you could probably finalize the disc with a menu that displayed this also, but this won't work for me.
If the DTS would have been shown through the AV out, I would have used that as a work-around.
This item is a deal breaker for me (the court thing).
This camera is going back.
I'm going to have to do a lot more research to make sure that any of the other cameras I am considering will display the DTS.

Hello mooreapi,
I guess that all miniDVD camcorder doesn't support this feature.
I hope that somebody who own other brand (Sony, Samsung, Canon) could share their experience.

Twoace,
I have a Sony DCR-DVD405 and it supports DTS (as do all Sony, AFAIK).
In one of the setup sub-menus(standard set), you have to turn ON a feature called "SUB-T DATE", and this allows the DTS to be displayed as a subtitle on a finalized disc being played in a DVD player.
I have tried it and it works.
The only reason I don't use this one for work is that I can't disable the onbaord mic (not yet, working on it) and the manual focus is handled on the touch-screen which makes it hard to access and use while filming on the fly. The autofocus sometimes gets stuck on stuff (water, dirt, scratches...) on my car windows.
Merry Christmas :) , Happy New Year

hello mooreapi,
wow, thanks for the info... I am thinking to sell my cam and get Sony. :)
Btw, did you ever test to transfer recording to PC (not using analog transfer)? Will you see DTS after transfer?
My plan is: I would like to transfer recording to bigger DVD capacity (4.7gb). So I need to transfer to PC, edit some video/frame, then transfer to 4.7GB DVD.
If it is possible to put DTS during transfering to PC, WOW... then I have to think about my budget. :)
Thanks for the info again.
Btw, this DTS, is it including the time or only date?
Panasonic only show date when playback. Only date. It will only show time & date in title menu.
Merry Christmas and Happy New Year, too! :)
Best regards,
twoace
