View Full Version : JVC GR-DV2000E Firewire Drivers

Cammy07
Hello,

I wish to first of all commend you on an excellent job, this website is by far the most resourceful i've found on Camcorders so far.

Secondly i'd like to apologise if you have seen this question 1000 times but i've been browsing and browsing with little success.

I have a JVC GR-DV2000E Camcorder. I recently bought a IEEE 1394 Firewire Cable to connect the camcorder to my PC only i cant find the drivers anywhere. Can someone please direct me to where i can find them?

My aim is to edit some movies that i've had stored on my camcorder for a while. While reading your forums, i found that WinDV seemed a good choice for transfering data. I have Sony Vegas as my editing programme. I also have a RW DVD Player. Is there anything i am missing in order to transfer my videos, edit them and put them on a DVD?

Again thank you very much, and keep up the excellent job.

Yours,

Cammy.

Cammy,

I'm not sure if there is a problem. Windows XP does not need drivers, it comes with it's own set of drivers.

Have you tried to transfer your video?

This article actually applies to all miniDV camcorders but it is a good guide: Firewire and the Panasonic 3CCD Camcorder by Guy Bruner http://www.pana3ccduser.com/article.php?filename=Firewire-and-the-Panasonic-3CCD-Camcorder

Thanks for your prompt response. Unfortunatly i've been away so i've had no time to look further into this problem.

When i connect my camera to the firewire port, nothing happens. No hardware installation pops up, WinDV says "Error: No video device found". I've set my camera to play, Video, XGA/VGA, UXGA, nothing seems to work. I took a look at the guide you posted and followed it, but when connecting the cam to the pc, nothing updates, like the guide says it should.

Any ideas?

Thanks again for the help, it's much appreciated.

Cammy

Edit: I just tried pressing Record while in Play mode, and it came up with DV.IN. But its still not detected by the softwares/PC.

I am VERY interested in seeing an ansewr to this post. I have been dealing with this issue on and off for almost a year. I have a JVC dv and am trying to connect using a firewire aswell. The same thing happens to me. I plug it in and then...NOTHING!!!!

Check your Firewire setup:
1. Go into Device Manager by Right Clicking on My Computer and select "Manage".

2. Under System Tools select "Device Manager", the "Computer Management" window will open.

3. Verify you have an "IEEE 1394 Bus Host Controller". It should have a device listed. If not, you do not have a Firewire card installed or the drivers have not been installed. Install the hardware from the Control Panel by selecting "Add Hardware" and let it do a hardware scan. Follow the instructions given on the screen.

4. If you have a listing for IEEE 1394 Bus Host Controller but it has an ! (exclamation point) or ? (question mark) to the left of it, the drivers are corrupted. Expand the listing and right click on the driver for the card. Select Uninstall.
Reboot the computer and let Windows redetect and reinstall the driver for the hardware.

5. Right click on the host controller and select "properties" then "Troubleshoot".

Attempt to transfer video:
1. I would try WinDV or DVIO in this thread Easy Capture Program (http://www.camcorderinfo.com/bbs/t105595.html) to transfer the video from your camcorder to computer.

2. Reboot your system before you attempt to transfer your video.

3. Do not run any other programs during capture. You should not be doing anything else with your computer during capture. Other programs can easily interrupt the high rate of data flow to the hard disk during capture that can cause dropped frames. Press Ctrl+Alt+Del and view the Task Manager to see a list of applications that are running. Any unnecessary operations can be stopped by selecting the process and clicking the End Task button.

4. If all of the above does not work Click on "Start" on your task bar, then select "Run..." enter the following line in the "Open.." box:
regsvr32 %windir%\system32\qdv.dll
(you can copy and paste the line in the box)
Click on "OK"
You should get a "DllRegisterServer succeeded..." message. Try capturing again.

Verify that your Camcorder terminal and Cable are functional:
1. With camcorder off and in tape playback mode (VCR or VTR), plug Firewire cable into the computer. Turn on the camcorder and verify that Windows XP detects the camcorder. On some camcorders the computer might not detect unless you switch the camcorder from one mode to another. switch the camcorder to the record mode then switch it back to the tape playback mode (VCR or VTR).

2. If the camcorder is not detected, take the camcorder and cable to another computer with Firewire, plug in, turn on and verify the camcorder is detected. If not, replace the cable and try again. If still no connection, the camcorder's Firewire port is probably bad. If the camcorder is detected on the other computer then there is a problem with Firewire on the first computer.

Comments:
1. "DV-In" in the camcorder display means that there is some communication between your camcorder and the computer, I have never seen DV-OUT displayed.

2. You might want to reinstall/update latest DirectX: http://www.microsoft.com/windows/directx/default.aspx Many applications use DirectX files for the Firewire IEEE 1394 transfer.

3. Try deleting the Firewire driver and let Windows detect the again camcorder.

Poncho,

Thank you again for such a prompt and informative response.

I tried all that has been recommended. Changed cables, firewire cards. Nothing seems to be working with this camcorder. I've made a decision to buy a new one and give this to a relative who will use it for more basic home recording.

I will use this site along with others to determine which camcorder is best for me.

Thanks again for your aid in the matter.

Regards,

Cammy
