View Full Version : Longer battery life

I'm looking for the larger, longer lasting battery pack for the HC1, but I don't know what model number it is. The cam came with the NP-FM50 (Lasts about an hour).
I tried an Impact (brand) "equivalent to NP-QM71" that had the "M" series sticker on it but it wasn't "info-lithium", and it would power the camera for about 5 seconds and then read "battery is low".

Anybody got any sugggestions or advice on which battery I need?

Thanks in advance! :)

I have both the NP-QM71D and NP-QM-91D. The 71 is twice the length of the FM50, and the 91 is three times the length (talking physical size here).

Some may find the QM91 too long to use with the viewfinder, which I do not...perhaps partially due to the fact I wear glasses. I have yet to use the QM91 to empty, it lasts a LONG time.

I guess you can about figure that 1/2/3 might be relative to time of usage for the 50/71/91 being the 91 would last 3 times the 50. Just a guess. I think the HC1 manual offers estimated times in it for the different batteries.

I personally would not use non-Sony batteries.

B&H Photo and Video has good prices, as compared to "suggested retail" or Sony price. Here's a link to Sony batteries at B&H.

The QM71D and 91D are at the bottom.

I have NO idea why I didn't think of the friggin' MANUAL! Been real busy at work I guess.

Thanks for the reply.

I just found this website/forum last night and it's been great reading all the hints, etc.

Thanks gain for the advice.

i agree QM90D is too long!

Guess it depends how long you will be recording for. It's been a while since I've done any "long" recordings, but when I got my HC1, I got an additional battery the same as the stock one (is that the Sony QM-71D series?)... any rate, they've served well so far for my purposes (and they've been used many times). But I guess if you record longer sessions a larger battery would be needed.

I wish I could remember how long the QM-71D lasted... but it's been so long since I've done any long 'single' session recordings. Mostly I record bits here and there over the days/weeks.

just remember that using DV mode (standard def.) can help battery last very long. About the video quality i playback in my hc1 LCD was very good (i can't show you yet, cause my hc1 still under repair). You can try yourself, but don't mix HD and DV footage in a tape.
