I just want to share some information with everyone that I found to be pretty cool since its free. First off you can sign up with Putfile and make an account to share videos. Up to 25 MB in certain formats and 100 MB in WMV formats I believe. Anyhow the quality remains relatively good and the best part is that you can create your own web page to share you videos. I know finding a place to host your video is hard so this is an option for a few people who don't have the funds to run a small website. I will run one one day but this is nice in as for now. Heres my website, hopefully some of you can benefit from the great service of Putfile.com

Very cool. I opened a couple of them myself but it looks like you took the time to fancy yours up a bit. hahaha. It is a good service. Now they'll probably sell it to some company and charge money. I hope not.

I just got an e-mail from putfile informing me that my video has been converted to web format...

"This is just a quick note to let you know that your video has been converted to web format. This will allow your video to be played on anyones computer and make it load quickly if not instantly."

At first, I thought, cool, can't hurt. Then I loaded it up and laughed. They converted my beautifuly encoded quicktime movie into a highly compressed flash version, naturally generating unbearable digital artefacts, and sub-par resolution.

I was really excited about the fact they didn't mess with the source material, now they're following in youtube's steps.

Anyone else get this e-mail, or am I just lucky.

That is pretty much typical with any of the free services....

Really? Thats pretty shocking b/c everything I've loaded up has not been recompressed in any shape or form.

TurtleTone2
I got that message when I upload bigger than 320X240.

3CCD
Well that makes sense, I output all my videos to iPod resolution to keep file size down.

I played around with this last night. I think if your file is under the 25mb limit it remains un-recompressed by putfile. But if you upload a larger file up to the 100mb and encode in windows media they recompress if your original was encoded greater than 400kbs (thier recommendation).

Let me know if any of you find out otherwise.

Mark

Just want to share another little site I have going. I'm in the last phase of my powerplant traininig and were rebuilding a turbojet engine. Here's a little page of some video I took from my class. I shot everything with my Canon SD600 Camera since bringing in the pro gear isn't practical. I want to so bad but I'm active member of the group and turbine oil and $2000 equipment don't go well together. Maybe I can work something out down the road. Heres the link:

The one video I checked out looked like it should have been in reverse.. it looked like they were installing U/S parts (rotors) from a fodded engine into a front frame of the build.. What's the story behind all of this, looks interesting. I worked on various turbo engine during my 26 yrs in the Air Force..

You can't expect much when the word "FREE service" is used. Hence why I have my own commercial server for such projects, and other things..

I'm 1/2 through my powerplant training for my A&P licensing. I have my airframe license but finishing up powerplant. The J-34 turbojets are really out limits, 100% unairworthy but are good instructional tools so we disassemble them and then reassemble them, not rebuilding. I appologize for the lack of accuracy as you are correct. Glad to read about another person on this board that was involved in aviation. I'm waiting for Sun N' Fun over here in FL to go down so that I can shoot some good stunt plane/ formation flying......

Thanks for the clarification! As an Independent Signature on engine builds it really caught me off guard to see people working (assembling) such a dead engine (they're not gonna ground run that engine are they?! quick get a video camera as this should be interesting!) But yes, those dead ones make for good training aids.

Ever get the chance to see one of those puppies get FODded out? You'll appreciate why you never stand directly in front of the intakes, even at a distance. When these engines blow, the shrapnel flies quite the distance.

I flew with the Canadian Forces Snowbirds Air Demo Team in the 90's and had our fair share of FOD'd engines, dirty runways, bird ingestions in flight etc etc. Sucks when you're in a single engine aircraft flying 3 feet apart low to the ground ; )

If you get to Sun'n'Fun, please let us know if you have fun footage to share! After 9/11, the private aviation industry/sport really took a huge hit around here and it's not extremely expensive and inconvinient to get to a private airfield, let alone rent an aircraft. I had to give up flying after that, too far to travel to rent an aircraft and too expensive. Hence why I'm now into motorcycling and doing a bunch of those videos this summer ;)

http://www.eastcoastphotos.com/ are some of my photography stuff (though slightly outdated, been to busy shooting to put stuff up)

Chats soon!

Yeah, I wouldn't stand in front of one of those engines on any given day. Just the idea of getting sucked into the inlet is scary enough. I will definitely video if I have the time to go to Sun N' Fun, I'll run out of battery before I video half of what I want too. I'll probably invest in a cheap 5600 mah battery off EBay for the trip.

Yeah general aviation took a huge hit,and the whole industry is feeling it as well. Sorry to hear that you had to give it up, I know I want to fly but the cost is to great, I might get into ultra lights and skydiving to satisfy my aviation hunger. Anyways I will try to get some aviation footage going on here. Everyone keep postn'

A car charger would be an asset as well.. I keep one in the car when I go on road trips. Works great. I have one of those large batteries that are rated for 10 hours. I did a total of 7.5 hours on it before recharging it a couple of times, so I know it will easily go past 8 hours on any given day.. that's a lot of juice!

Flying in the military and civilian life gave me a life time of flying experience, going beyond 50,000 ft, supersonic, a couple of mid air collisions, emergency landings and one crash. Yeah Sky Diving will fill in more than a couple of aviation voids in your life hehe.. been there done that, unfortunately my last jump was my last one with an emergency bail out from altitude (engine out on jump plane) that didn't go well and I ended up being injured... And now I'm on motorcycles, the only thing that has never tried to kill me in the last 20 odd years ; )

I also have a bullet cam and digital recorder device that I use for biking but after using high end digital cameras, I'm building up a mount for the bike to hold the Canon Optura XI to capture the whole effect.. Bullet cams simply don't seem to do the job as well..

Hmm digressing.. I should stop here, I could go on all day.. oops!
