View Full Version : most WA don't have front thread... why?

The title says it all.
Funny thing is that the cheap eBay stuff comes with front thread so I can add a hood. So why the more expensive ones don't have a front thread and/or come with hood?

I don't know but I'll venture a guess. Maybe they want to prevent people from adding things that will inevitably lead to vignetting. With a WA, a hood would likely get in the way unless it is very much bigger than the lens field of view. Maybe the WA adapter manufacturers want to save us from ourselves.
Not that they're doing it for altruistic reasons. If we stick on a filter or hood and get vignetting, we're likely to return the WA for a refund. The manufacturers don't want us to do that.
Just a guess.
Good luck.

hmmmm... interesting. Although, if they provide the lens with its own hood, that problem will be completely eliminated. :p

By lens I assume you mean the WA adapter. Well, if they did include a hood it would add $X to the price of the adapter. They may not want to hike the price for it. Or maybe someone already has a clip-on hood and doesn't want another. Of course they could always offer the hood as an option for those who want it.
Just another guess.
Good luck.
