View Full Version : AVCHD Players

On vacation, each day, I like to review the shots I have taken with my camcorder. With tape based camcorders this meant looking at the miniature camcorder display. The new Panasonics (and Canon) use an SDHC card that has to be unloaded to a hard drive or laptop computer to free it for further use. I assume that the files are saved on the laptop in the same file format used on the SD card. I would not want to lose any quality by converting them to another format.
I have searched to find a player to view the AVCHD video files on the laptop and see that Elecard, Nero and Cyberlink have software that will display the AVCHD files, but I read that the performance is dependant on the CPU and video card etc. Not so good for a laptop.
I discovered this web site reviewing AVCHD decoders:

If you wade through the posts they mention CoreAVC as one of the best. I checked their website and see that they are just about ready to release a player that looks very interesting:

Are there any other players I am missing?
As a side issue. I am disapponted with the US Panasonic web site - They have very little information about the HDC-SD1. Compare that site with the UK web site where you can downoad the user manual:

After converting AVC files in Nero (still in HD), I can view with WMP. If you have a program that does conversions on your laptop (especially the sony vaios) you conversion options and thus your viewing options increase. My experience so far is that it takes less power for me to convert a file than to view it, so that may be your best laptop option if the laptop isn't bleading edge.

Also, many thanks for the link to the UK site. I bought my product in Japan and haven't seen an english manual to date, so this was helpful!
