I bought the cheapee filter kit off ebay. They usually go for about $20 shipped. Its a red box that says Crystal Optics on it.
These filters have threads on the front of them, allowing you to connect it with a telephoto or wideangle lens. You could also, techinically, stack another filter on it, but it caused so much vignetting (darkened corners) that i would not suggest it.
Unfortunately, washington weather has not been great for using the polarizer for anything dramatic, but i will hopefully test this out this weekend.
The polarizer is a linear type. It has an adjustable ring that lets you set the polarization to either vertical or horizontal (or anything in between). I am able to make the laptop screen go dark, so it seems to work ok. A major disadvantage to linear polarizers is the fact that some auto focus systems seem to have trouble with them. I really didnt have any issues with focusing though.
Not a good day for the UV filter, and im sure most people will find it more useful as a dust filter than anything else. I cant tell the difference. Maybe in a special case to combat any hazy looking images....
The FLD filter (flourescent filter) seems to balance out the flourescent lighting a little better, but my white balance seems to do just fine in flourescent lighting when manually white balanced without it.
Overall, i am pleased with the filters so far.
