Does anyone know of some goos lens to get?
I was toying around with some video with and without a polarizing lens in front and the polarizing lens seemed to help in direct sunlight.

Are you asking about lenses or filters? I've never heard of a "polarizing lens" but I have heard of polarizing filters. They will reduce glare when shooting over water, snow, that sort of thing. I'm not sure how much they will help in direct sunlight unless there's some glare, of course.
Good luck.

Anyone know of any good macro lenses, I mean like really close up stuff where you can see the hairs on insects and the eyes on spiders etc. Kind of like the stuff you see on discovery channel? I have seen some pretty cheap home made stuff for SLR cameras.

Actually I am looking for both. I experimented over the weekend in direct sun light (in auto mode). Some of the details were washed out. I held my polarized filter over the camera and the everything came back into detail. I may also be looking for a wide angle lens as well.

Hi People
the lens I memtioned above does have macro capibiities. I get so close to a penny I can see Abe's nose hairs.
heres another trick I done foe more then 30 years. I take my lens off my camera and turn it around so as to mount it backwards. of course you first need a secondary lens to do this with. This trick allowed me to take macrography imagary to the next level for me without spending alot of money. I mean I was practically touching my pet 'dead' fly subject with the lens. Lighting became quiet an issue if I remember correctly. I needed to bring my aperature up to 8 something so I had enought depth of field to get just the compound eye in focus. This required a great deal of light.

This is exactly what I am talking about. If anyone has a list of parts (step up/down adapters) and cheap lens options (specific models, or generec types) that will specifically work with the HD7 I would love to know.
I am heading down to Zions Natoinal Park this weekend and am doing a technical slot canyon, there will be a lot of narrow low light situations, is there a specific filter and/or lens that would be good. I purchased a 46-58mm step up adapter and 58mm Promaster UV filter for $40. I have no idea if this is any good, I can return it if you guys think I should do something else. I am somwhat limited on internet purchases because I leave Friday morning so I may have to pick my stuff up locally(SLC Utah).
I am really new to this whole thing and I only have a few days to buy some stuff so I apoligize for the ignorance.

I was looking at wide angle lenses and I came across the Cavision .42x wide angle converter lens, model: MWC042X46
http://www.adorama.com/CIMWC042X46.html?searchinfo=MWC042X46&item_no=1
This lens is only $50 and has the normal 46mm thread of the HD7, is there any reason to get the more expensive 58mm above instead of this one?

WATCH out what TYPE OF LENS YOU GET. Believe me you want a 'FOCUS THROUGH ZOOM'. That way you dont have to keep taking the wide angle lens off everytime you want a closeup or even a medium shot. I am actually very close to wearing the lens threads on my other JVC to a point to which the lens cant be mounted very easily. The threads keep crossing. BUMMMER!
With the one I stated on my first entry of this thread is perfect. Even though I got a larger mounted lens ( using 46mm to 58mm adapter) I still have some Vignetting. and thats only at full .45 wide @16:9 .
By the way using a bigger lens enables you to use less of the lens thus less distortion. Theoretically. Many Variables.
Anyway PLEASE chose wisely.
Good luck

Ok I would love to buy the exact one you got, my delima is that I really need a wide angle lens tomorrow as I leave for Zions Friday morning early. What are the chances I can find a 'zoom through' lens at a local camera shop? Will any zoom-through wide angle that is 46mm or 52mm/58mm (with an adapter) work?
The salesman at my local camera shop told me that "we don't sell wide angle lenses for video cameras". Is that true or should I be able to find one that will work?
I guess if I can't get one in time I will just shoot this trip normal and order one for the next trip in about a month or so.
Thanks for all the help!

I know your probably swamped with things to do before your trip but why not go online and find a good photo store around where your going, order ir and pick it up out there. problem is most, not all camera stores online are in NY city.
These lens are used in regular SLRs thats why they come in so many mm sizes. What youll have problems with is the step up adapters.
Solution too pick reg lens up ,use it then sell o ebay. Just remember about the thread wear on the HD7.
Good Luck
