View Full Version : Thinking of Canon XHA1 but what settings for Web Vid

markjayne
I'm thinking of upgrading my Canon XM2 for a new HD cam, and was looking at the new XHA1. I'm a little confused  Most of my videos are for internet download and I always use WMV 9 and de-interlace. What would be the best settings to use on this camera to suit my needs. Its starting to go over my head a little with the 1080i, 720p and so on.

Any help and advice would be most appreciated :)

A1 has several shooting modes including 24f,30f and 60i. It all depends on what you are shooting and what kind of look you want to achive. For more film like look 24f is suitable, for sports or fast moving objects 30f will give you better results.

But if you are only thinking about using the camcorder for downconverting and uploading to the internet, HV20 may be a better choice for you than A1. So that you can save over $2000.

Thanks vsansal...

I mainly shoot at air shows, so there's a lot fast moving objects around. I also need a camera with a viewfinder and plenty of custom control's, especially manual focus. Looking at the Microsoft HDV samples, they look really good considering they've been compressed into WMV9, and I'd be happy if my vids could look as good.

Thanks again,

Mark :)

The best setting for shooting fast moving objects with A1 would be 30f IMO. Which will give you 1080/30p. Then if you want you can downconvert it to 720/30p and it will still look great. When you change it to WMV format, as long as you choose higher bitrates your videos will still look good but once you start lowering the bitrate you will start seeing a lot of noise.
