View Full Version : LANC info

Hello all... I did a few google searches for HC1 and LANC... but didn't find much on "my level". (some pages that just had a bunch of weird stuff on them)

Is there a place I can go that may explain how LANC works and what you can all do via LANC control?

Can you hook up the HC1 to a computer via the LANC port and controll it?

I'm trying to find if there's a way I can control recording with it.
(and if so, how : )

Theoretically, I'd guess it's possible to control recording via LANC from a PC, but offhand I don't know of any SW/HW combination that will do this. I think the external HDDs that some camcorders can use work via firewire for both data transfer/recording and device control. I think there were a couple of threads on this either here or at the sonyhdvinfo boards a few weeks ago, but can't remember exactly what the final verdict was.

I know that device control in most editing programs is done via firewire.

That being said there are many hardware, LANC-wired remotes out there, made by both Sony and third parties, that will control recording, zoom and more on your camera. B&H has a bunch of them, and the Sony website has their own model.

Do a search at B&H for "LANC remote" -- or even just on the web -- and you'll get lots of hits that detail what's out there. As I recall Wikipedia had a pretty simple article on it as well that explained what it does.

Thanks! I wasn't adding "remote" with my searches, so that will probably help : )

(I think with a remote, I should be able to manually set something up)
