I was in the editing main forum and I talked about buying Pinnacle 11, the new version coming out friday, and I was laughed at, not by one person but by a few saying anything is better than Pinnacle, now Im in here looking at all the problems people are having???DSo it's true??

Let Him who hath understanding recon the number of the beast.

If Pinnacle v11.x is as stable as the 10.x you can trust it.
I wouldn't say that anythings better than Pinnacle. It has some shortcomings compared to Adobe but if You're not shooting blockbusters You'd definately be all right. I guess Your PC is well equipped for video editing.

When You consider my oppinion, please keep in mind that I may suffer from the same thing that those who deny Pinnacle does - what you use yourself is always better ;-)

I have been a Pinnacle user since version 7. I also have used Adobe Premiere quite much, specifically where I could not do what i wanted in Pinnacle. Today i almost only use Pinnacle, as it today support all my needs. I have not had any major problems. I had some of the initial installation problems with version 10, but thats about it. I am now on 10.7 and I have ordered 11 as I am eger to start edit my AVCHD stuff native. Today i convert it to HD mpeg2. and produce HD DVD and HD WMV. It works fine, but somewhat slow as my PC needs an uppgrade!

Well I really like the stage tool ungrade for 11, BUT I went to AAmazon and read 12 bad reviews on every product they have made. It received 1 star out of 5, and I did a gogle and you wouldn't believe the bad reviews for 10.....

danishconsumer
Hm. It is tricky to make a pick - that goes for almost anything - based on reviews only, but it's normally what one has to relate to.
I had the same problem when I recently had to pick a new camcorder.
What is considered unimportant for one means the world to another.

I am using 10.1 with this hardware, and it works great. I have no ectra updates installed onto this version.

AMD 64 3200+
1G ram
160 GB sata HD and 80 GB ATA133 HD (the last for videoediting only)
Leadtek Winfast PX 6600 GT graphics
Onboard sound, 6.1 capable
Panasonic NV-GS230 on Firewire to replace my Panasonic NV-DS30 which grew old on me.
Everything fueled by WinXP SP2.

The setup is pretty much standard settings, which background rendering enabled and everything to boost the process.
It has never failed. Not once, and I've made hours of finished DVDs from days of raw tapes.

If It was me reading user revs for new software, I'd look close to reports on frequent crashes and process speed. Surely You'd have to know about the reviewers hardware to interprete the review correctly.

With my setup, I make DVD in highest pal quality (but not HD) at a speed of 1 project minute rendered at one minute (realtime - almost).

It is my oppinion that pinnacle gets better with everey major build, in fact there were major improvements from v9.x to 10.00.
If You'd like to save money, You'd probably be able to find v10 at a good price somewhere.

It is all true. I have pinnacle and it is the worst program EVER! Just last night I tried to revert to a saved file and everything froze up. I had to close the program and when I tried to re-open it it said "file was written in a later version of Pinnacle". Turns out that something screwed up the file, AND I lost pinnacle Titanium, so the company had to sent me new activation codes to fix it. Luckily the video came out alright.

danishconsumer
Hm.. The issue with being unable to open projects edited in later versions should relate to missing .scn files. It should be possible though to make convertions between versions. I've dunnit many times.

What are your hardware specs. Maybe there's a reasonable explanation for your trouble.

I paid way too much for what it is really worth for version 9 Pro. I was forced to make it work because I was short on funds, and didn't feel like dishing out even more money for something else. I wish I would have. Getting 9 up & running correctly never happened. It has been the most frustrating piece of software I have owned. I was extremely agitated when they stopped supporting 9 since they never got it working correctly in the first place. Their answer was '...upgrade to 10 and you won't have those issues any more' - direct quote. A person should not have to pay even more $ to get a WORKING version that they paid good money for in the first place. Pinnacle sucks, stay away!!

i tried to download the trial version to give it a go, but it wouldn't download??? so i sent an email to them and they sent me out a hard copy of the program, great service too, well tried to load that onto my computer and this copy wouldn't load either

after yet another email the lady told me she would send me out a copy of Cyberlink Power Director  to try as pinnacle more than likely would never work on my machine and even the new ver 11 might not load too

well the power director she sent me is still in its case never opened as i did the smart thing and bought Sony Vegas :D no problems what so ever yet, very stable and takes up very little space on the hard drive, have a look how much space pinnacle takes up, it's been patched that much and still doesn't work properly

do ya self a favour and just give pinnacle a miss, you won't regret it ;)

cheers chuck

PS my computer is brand new Intel Duo core with 1gig of ram and a 256mb video card

Vegas was a good choice. It's more expensive but also more powerful and 100% better than Pinnacle. My friend is just about to buy it.

I've used Pinnacle Studio since version 8 - I use version 9 plus at the moment and it is great. I've just got version 11 and it is fine so far.

I've used Adobe Prem, Sony Vegas and Avid liquid - NONE of these are as user friendly. Studio is easy to use with the ability to drag and drop clips, transitions, etc and i have produced some cracking stuff with it. Sure some of the other programmes are a pro standard but half the time this is the problem with them - they over complicate things...

Pinnacle Studio has been excellent for me and in my opinion is well worth having. :)
