View Full Version : Filters for Canon HV20

Rasterman
Hello, I am going to get a HV20 for my first camcorder based on the HD round up review. I will be doing some outdoor landscape shots and was wondering if I will need any specific hardware? I was planning on picking up a tripod and some filters at a minimum.

I found a cheap set on ebay, are these any good or are they just a waste of money?

Leave the cheap filters alone. What I would get is a UV or skylight filter for physical protection of the lens when you don't have another filter mounted, a couple of ND filters: ND4 and ND6, and a circular polarizer. You'll find the circular polarizer to be indispensable for your landscape shots. Select a good brand like Hoya, Tiffen or B+W. You can find them at B&H Photo Video, 2Filter.com, Adorama, etc.

Well I ordered some Hoya filters, got my HV20 and UV filter from FedEx about 10 minutes before leaving for the Shuttle Atlantis launch :) just in time! The footage is awesome from this camera, used the HDV 1080i format, will try 24p and see how that looks next week.
