View Full Version : Problem with compression to AVI/WMV - Frame Rate Loss

Wookiss
Hi there. I have problems compressing footage from Camcorder to Avi file.
Lets start from beggining. What i do is, i backup my footage using 'Power Cinema for Everio'. Actually it does nothin more then copyin TOD iles to HDD. To do anything with those files i import them to Power Director Xpress, so it converts them to MPG files (i dont see a quality loss, but mpg files are a bit smaller).
Afterwards i want to compress these mpg files to AVI/WMV.
Basicly Im using Sony Vegas - so i Use HD 1080 60i Project setting. After compressing with any kind of AVI Codec (DivX, XVid, FFDshow) or WMV i kinda loose smoothnes of the movie. It says in file properties that it's 29.970 fps, but my eyes say something different, when i compare MPG with AVI/WMV.

Ive uploaded one shot from Cam - MPG file is the one from Power Director Xpress, and compressed one - WMV

http://www.divshare.com/download/1212317-c15

And anyone knows what field order should i use for GZ-HD7 movies? Im pretty sure its Upeer Field First, but i want to make sure.

And one more confusing thing with Sony Vegas. When i start new project i set Project Settings to: HD 1080 60i
This profile automaticlly sets 'Upper Field First'
But then, when i render movie i gotta choose a profile, and in that profile i can again set Field Order etc. How does that affect Project settings ive set at the beggining?

And one more (lol): In Sony Vegas Project Settings, when You choose HD 1080 60i - u got Deinterlacing set-up. Do i need to switch deinterlacing 'on' ?? I mean i thought deinterlacing is a process where U loose quality. I thought that right field order would be enough...

I downloaded a movie from one of the guys on this forum. a test shot from his GZ-HD7 - it was AVI file, and it was playing smoothly.

So anyone has an idea what might be my problem?? Is it codec problem? Or something different?

Hello,

It is been three months for me since I am using JVC GZHD7, I always use “PowerDirector 6” for editing and etc. The company has provided Cyberlink software but it has fewer features, so I did upgrade and bought “PowerDirector 6” which has all the features! With this software you can convert your MPEG files into HD 720p, HD MPEG4 720p and many more!

I tried Sony Vegas 7, I found it very complicated & bit of difficult, and “PowerDirector 6” is really very easy. I wanted to buy Sony Vegas but then I went for Cyberlink’s PowerDirector 6 and I am happy, it is not expensive, but only about $80.

I have upload some videos in this forum, check them you will see the difference.

Hmm so u say they play smoothly on Your Laptop?? I dont know then whats wrong with my Computer - i got a Core2Duo E6600 CPU and 2Gb RAM. So the only possible explanation would be - im using some shitty codecs for Avi deocoding :/
What kind of codecs (maybe codec pack do You use).
And the first Video (MPG One) is the one from Camcorder - i mean it has only been converted by Power Director to MPG file. This one plays really smooth on my PC. But AVI - its jerky - not that much, but You cane clearly see the difference :/ As i said before - Ive seen movie from one guy on this forum, recorded wirh NTSC GZ-HD7 (the same as mine). It was AVI, and it was playing smoothly on my PC :(
Btw. Ive been tryin to compress to AVI in many programs - VirtualDub, After Effects, Sony Vegas, Power Director, Auto Gordian Knot - its always the same. I dont know whats wrong :(

And the guy in the movie ive sent is a trickster. We do this stuff, and im makin movies of it :P

I'm a tad confused... AVI is a NON-compressed format, relative to the others -- one does not "compress to AVI". For HD, an hour of AVI should be around 70GB (about 4.5x what SD DV-AVI runs). HD MPEG2 is around the same size as SD DV-AVI -- 13GB/hour. WMV9 can shrink smaller, but takes hours to transcode... And recommends a 3GHz or faster P4 processor (I wish someone made a table equating effective P4ht speeds to Core2Duo/Quad for various applications).

.AVI is not a standard format, it is a container/shell/carrier which can contain almost anything. MiniDV produces DV AVI (D25). Other common .AVI files are DivX, Xvid, MJPEG, MPEG4, Cinepak and GoMotion.

I would suggest you try to play those files in every media player, like Divx player, Window media 11, Real player, PowerDVD Ultra, VLC player and etc. Why I am telling you because I have JVC GZHD7 and my some of files run well in some player and not in some players. If I convert my captured video in Divx than it is not working well with Window media 11 but working fine with Divx plar and PowerDVD Ultra. And you also try with Window Media Centre I am sure it will work very smoothly.

I told you before that supplied “PowerDirector Express 5” has some limited features, so I did upgrade with “PowerDirector 6” which has more features and it is very easy to use, you can convert your video in many format. I also bought PowerDVD Ultra, which is playing every file, almost everything, so for me it is not problem; the videos are very smooth while watching in PowerDVD Ultra.

So, buy PowerDirector 6 as well as PowerDVD Ultra, which is really good for viewing HD videos.

Try below link for converting video & audio files, it is really great software and it is free!
