I've been trying to find a Matte Box for use on the XHA1.

Anyone have any ideas?

I saw Cokin is coming out with one, but was wondering if anyone had any other ideas.

Thanks.

Chrosziel has a nice matte box designed for A1/G1.

For us non pro guys with an A1 (or any camera) what is the main use for a matte box? I understand it holds 4x4 filters, and sidewings....just not sure about when it would be used. Are the larger filters generally much better quality? Thanks!

It is for reducing/avoiding the lens flare and also using 4x4 filters as you described. The quality of the filters is not related to the size of the filter but the material. The advantage here is the ability to change the filters very easily. You can just insert or remove a filter without screwing using the matte box. Matte boxes are very useful and needed equipment but what I don't understand is it's price. It is not a sophisticated equipment yet you can find matte boxes that can easily exceed or match the camcorder's price.

OK, thanks for the info, that makes sense. That box BETTER be high quality for $1700 !!! YIKES!! For pros though, I can see how the price would be justified. Thanks again.
