Alternatives to Picture Package that are both 405 AND Mac compatible?

I just got a new Mac computer, and I've come across a sticky problem.

We own a Sony Handycam DCR-DVD403 that was a gift to us from my parents two years ago. At the time, we had only a Windows-based PC. However, I recently converted to using a MacBook Pro, and we retired the old Windows computer. I was disappointed to learn the Picture Package is not compatible with Mac OS X since the transition from Windows to Mac was otherwise flawless. I was also disappointed to learn that neither iPhoto nor iMovie are compatible with this particular Sony Handycam model.

Since I wasn't crazy about the non-user-friendliness of the Picture Package software anyway, are there other, better alternative file-transfer software packages out there that will work with both Mac OS X and the Sony Handycam 403?

As it stands right now, I've got pictures on the mini-DVD in the camcorder just waiting to be uploaded to a computer, but no software that will do the job! (Incidentally, we are in the process of moving overseas, and the Picture Package software disk is being shipped to our new location while I'm stuck stateside.)

This will be a rather late response, and more of a pointer than an actual content, but I guess it's better than nothing (and could stay here on this topic as a reference for future Macophiles) :)

Unless the manufacturer itself provides the drivers for a piece of hardware on a certain environment/operating system, there would be very slim hope of someone else taking the time to take care of usually messy driver development. I guess there may be some out there that does this for Linux for very popular peripherals, but I guess our Sony Handycams haven't reached that level of popularity yet!
