Hi Really hope this is in the right section? I have a sony Handycam TRV-285E It takes Hi8 Tapes and I was wondering is it possible to put it through my PC? I cant work it out as I have lost the manual and It doesnt seem to have any sockets apart from the place where the charger slots in and the bit like a headphone socket where you put the lead in to run it through the TV.
I WISH I had got a camera with DVD but I had a crappy computer at the time that I brought this camera, Now I have a good one and Would Love to put my movies onto DVD through my PC is there away? PLEASE help thanks all xx

Hi8 is an ANALOG signal format.
To get it into a computer will require the use of an A/D signal converter.
You would play the tape on the camera and use A/V (it should have those) outputs to feed the input of the converter.

Roxio Easy Media Creator Deluxe Suite ($130) includes the cheaper Pinnacle Dazzle (50?)
I've never used it, so can't comment on quality.
Not to mention that I have two tape cameras with analog input capability, and A/D passthrough ability.

Of course, if you are thinking of buying a new camera sometime near -- look for one that has, at minimum Analog A/V input (not just output), and preferably one that has analog in with Firewire passthrough.
With just analog in, you would be duplicating the video onto the new camera. With passthrough, you don't need to record it ON the camera, you can do capture on a computer...
