View Full Version : Burn Problems

I'm finding that 8 out of 10 attempts to burn to DVD results in the adobe premiere software just crashing out and closing down. I cant work out why..any thoughts?
Also when I use the create dvd function to create a menu and scenes etc it looks very straightforward until I actually put the burned dvd into my player and none of the menu image comes up on the tv until the end! surely that should be the begining? Please any help would be valued am ripping my hair out here! thanks

Can't help with Premiere itself but...

You might try burning at one speed lower than the disks are rated for. If the crash is related to burn speed...

As for the menu problem, sounds like the disk layout is being set-up with controls to auto-play the main video.

Thanks for that..but there doesn't seem to be a burn speed option and the setting was not on autoplay! One thing I have notice is in respect of the crashing problem when burning is that it seems more likely to crash if I deselect the fit to space button

And how long are the productions? Usually, fit-to-space/optimize are meant to fit slightly overlong productions onto the space of a normal disk. If you are near the 1hour mark, and still have menus on top of that, you could be overrunning the end of the disk...

Again thanks for showing an interest and caring to help. The video footage is only around seven minutes hence my temptation to unclick fit to space and move the slider to high quality..am I doing the right thing? Also on previous software settings prior to "get video" I recall a whole host of settings for different types of ultimate play back which told you at the outset how much memory per minute the settings would require but this doesn't seem to be the case with this software..am I right that it just gets the video at maximun quality and then the options are for different qualities depending on the export application? sorry if that a mouthful but appreciate your help.

I'm afraid I have to bow out at this point... Up to now I've been speaking in generalities (given that I have available Windows Movie Maker, Roxio EMC 9 VideoWave, and Sony Vegas Movie Studio Platinum for editing, and Roxio EMC 9 MyDVD and Sony DVD Architect Studio for disk authoring). But now we are down to specifics that I don't know the full context of.

As wonderful an application as the premiere products are, the burn module seems to have its share of problems. Its for this reason I opted to use a seperate DVD authoring software. I use DVD Workshop which is old and expensive but there is another great option.

Sony DVD Architect Studio is a wonderful product and is under 40 bucks I do believe. It not only runs pretty much rock solid, but it offers many more menuing and creative options.

Back to your specific problem though, Premiere is a resource sponge so being sure no background apps are running is very important. This includes anti virus software.

I also know it has some issues with certain audio drivers.

I do strongly suggest not even dealing with that portion of the program, but if you must, I also strongly suggest you post this question on the Adobe Premiere Elements forum at www.adobe.com The folks there are very familiar with the specific glitches and trouble spots in that module.

I don't think Sony offers it stand-alone any more... You get the basic version with VMS, and a slightly different version (dolby I think) with VMSP.

I find it quite inconvenient. It is bundled with my VMS 6.0 but I don't use it. I use Nero Vision for DVD authoring, which is very simple but does all that I need from a program like this.

Sorry all, but it is indeed offered as a standalone product and it is a very good solution for anyone who wants stability and options.

Interesting... Wonder if that's a somewhat new release... The Sony comparison charts for the Vegas family (v7 of all) used to have footnotes that DVDAS 3 was only available with VMS, DVDAS 4 was only available with VMSP...

And, of course, "studio-less" DVDA came with the full Vegas.

I think the difference between DVDAS 3 and 4 was that 4 could accept HDV video for transcode to standard definition. 4.5 probably added the Sony AVCHD files.
