View Full Version : PV-GS500 VCR to MiniDV

GridGI
Hello! I am a bit frustrated by now. I have been trying to record some of my VHS tapes to miniDV using my camcorder and I just could not figure out a way to do it. The manual only tells me how to record DV to VHS but not the other way around. Can anyone suggest where to select input source on the camcorder? I have the A/V cable plugged in properly but I'm not able to receive the VCR footage. What am I doing wrong?

The GS500 A/V is output only, not input. All MiniDV camcorders have "AV" or "A/V" outputs; but not all of them have "AV" or "A/V" inputs;

This is a list of recent MiniDV NTSC model camcorders which have analog inputs. This does not mean that it does have what is commonly called "Pass Through" but without the analog inputs you can not have "Pass Through". The ones which show "Pass Through" after the model appear to have the feature. The phrase on parentheses indicates what it is actually called in that models manual.

This list is by no means complete and I certainly may have made an error somewhere:

Thank you. I'm disappointed the GS500 does not make the list, my sister's old Sony handles analog to digital and my still fairly new Panasonic GS500 does not. I liked the camera but now I'm really disappointed.

Yet another feature manufacturers have eliminated from consumer cams over the past couple of years. Focus rings, mic inputs, headphone outputs, viewfinders, now AV inputs, RIP.

Good luck.
