What do you guys think of attaching this to the top of the ZR850 with velcro? its 4 inches long which is a perfect fit after i measured and it is white lcds not blue. Reviews say it makes a nice flood effect which is what this sucker needs. what do you think?

I don't know about the light but something like this (http://www.bhphotovideo.com/bnh/controller/home?O=WishList.jsp&A=details&Q=&sku=131401&is=REG) might be a better way to attach a light than Velcro. Assuming, of course, that the cam has a tripod mount.
There are several variations of this kind of device if that one doesn't fit your needs.
Good luck.

Thanks dennis that looks like a great idea. Now can anyone suggest a low cost decent light to afix to it?

No clue.....I've never needed to shoot at night with my camera, it's almost always daytime when i shoot.
Velcro and a flashlight sound good to me.

well im not talking about shooting at night im mainly trying to find a way to combat the low light and indoor grainyness of the zr850

I don't know what you plan to shoot indoors but I think you'll get better results if you turn on some lamps--add more than you have now, if necessary--than a single on-cam light. With an on-cam light you will get very flat (read: not flattering) light directly into the eyes of your subject. Depending on how much brighter your cam light is than the ambient lighting, you can easily get a face floating in a sea of black.
One thing some folks do for extra indoor lights if you don't want to spring for a professional light kit is to set up a few work lights like this (http://www.sears.com/shc/s/p_10153_12605_03473828000P?vName=Tools&keyword=work+light).
Good luck.
