View Full Version : Avid Xpress Pro now an editing choice

Panasonic has come through with a transcoder for the AG-HSC1U and its consumer siblings to convert their content from AVC-HD to P2 DVCPRO HD. This is native to Avid Xpress Pro with no further transcoding required. Here is the Panasonic link where you can get this new tool:

It takes a lot of computer horsepower to run this transcoder. On my Quad-core Q6600 machine, the transcoding happens in about real time with all four cores humming away. The results are quite nice with Xpress Pro seeing the new P2 structure as if it came from one of Panasonic's high-end HD cameras. The 5.1 sound is fully supported.

Bye.

Don't forget to tell them it completely renames all the video files to random 00XXXX names, doesn't transcode them in order and that if you have more than a handful of clips, as most people who use the SD1-SD5 do, since it makes a new clip every time you record, that it will take you forever to figure out the actual sequence.

I know. I transcoded an entire football game that was 135 10-15sec clips. It took the 3.4gb project and turned it into a 30gb monster with no way of renaming the files after transcoding since the xml file has the name embedded into it.

I was aware of the 9X expansion, as I have used it a few times. Yes, it would be frustrating to have 135 short clips that seem to now be in random order.

I tend to shoot much longer clips when I'm recording an event and edit out what I don't want later.
