View Full Version : NV-GS320: Video without audio

mrsteel
Hello,

I've got Panasonic NV-GS320 camera (which supports high-speed USB2). I'm able to transfer video from camera to PC over USB without problems. The trable is, that the transfered video is without audio. Can anyone give a hint what may I be doing wrong?

Details:
The record on DV casette includes audio, I can hear it from camera when playing it. I grab the video to PC using the "MotionDV Studio" program included with the camera. The program works fine, I've learned how to use it. However the resulting AVI contains only silence. (I'm not sure whether it contains audio track with silence, or if it lacks the audio track completely. Unfortunately, I cannot test it now. But I think I would notice if it didn't contain the audio track at all.)

I've checked the camera and program manuals several times, and cannot find what I may be doing wrong. The manuals talk only about transfer of video and video clips, which I interpret that they mean video+audio - as the camera records audio too (of course). But they never mention audio directly. I've also serched internet, but found nothing. Official Panasonic site is of no use, they provide no support at all, only Q&A for trivialities.

Please help.

Martin.

Can be DV AVI Type 2.

I am not familiar with your camera or your software. But I've had this problem myself. In my case (and it sounds like this is your problem), the audio is being captured from the wrong input device. Is there a way (in your capture software) to change where you're getting the audio? If so, try the different options offered to you.

Good luck.

I have a 320...I only use firewire..
However on page 70 of the instruction manual, under Playback (sound),it mentions st1 ans st2...
Check your settings in the main menu (playback menu)..and try switching the setting????????

Thank you for responses.

I don't understand. Do you mean that WMPlayer may be unable to play it correctly, even when the audio is there?

I think this setting has sense only when capturing analog audio. I would expect that over USB the audio is trasfered together with video.

I've checked that now. I have set ST1, which shoul be correct (playback of recorded audio).

I wonder if there is an official or near-official Panasonic forum somewhere to help. I found none.

Thank you, Martin.

Not true. This happened to me when using Sony Vegas Movie Studio to capture footage from my Sony digital Hi-8 over USB port. It was capturing audio from the wrong audio device, therefore, capturing no sound. In my case, if the audio is not captured from "Sony Digital Imaging Audio", I get no sound. After all, even if the audio is on the tape, if the capture software is pulling audio from another device (IE your sound card)...then it's not going to capture any audio.

Again, I suggest you try looking at the various audio input sources offered to you in your capture software. See if there are other options offered & try them.
