View Full Version : In the market for a new camcorder

Jpak87
Hey guys,

I currently have a dcr-dvd105 and was not pleased with it because the disc made too much noise while recording and it was annoying to hear it in the video. Might have just been my camera, but my friend suggested me to get a hd instead, so I am looking for an upgrade.

I went to microcenter the other day and was interested in the dcr-sr42 30gig. $440 was the price and I don't mind spending that much for the bottom of the line. The sr82 was only $140 more, but I think most of the price difference has to do with the 60gig hd.

I don't know too much about camcorders, if you guys can give me some suggestions that would be great. I'll be using it mostly for uploading vids onto youtube. The dvd105 in terms of picture quality I was satisfied with, so as long as the sr42 is the same or better.. I'll be fine. I'm just concerned whether or not sound has been an issue with this model. Can someone give me a thumbs up on whether this is a goodbuy in terms of what I am replacing? Thanks

Suggest you read reviews from at least 3 different sources. You can also save some money ordering it online versus buying it locally. I have the SR100 which is a hard disk camcorder and its a little different importing it in your editor. I use a mac and I have to convert it to DV before importing. If your on a pc, there are some software that edits mpeg2 without other steps. Just a little different method to edit. If you could go back to the store a make a couple minute video, take it home and see if you can edit it, then watch it to see if you like the quality. Being standard definition, you won't need a powerful computer to edit it. Hope this helps.
