View Full Version : My HG10 Now Has Some Competition

I bought a Kodak V1253 point and shoot camera. It shoots 12 megapixel photos but the real claim to fame is that it can shoot 720p HD video at 30fps. I was really surprised at how good the quality is. Since there is no forum here for Kodak, I thought I would post this astounding news here.

In this video it says it was rendered using Adobe Premiere 4 but it really should say Adobe Premiere Elements 4.

The Kodak V1253 saves video in the Apple .mov format. In its way, that format is just as quirky and difficult to work with as AVCHD is. But I found that a few of the editing programs can take the mov files and go straight to the final format without having to first convert them. Adobe Prmiere Elements 4 is one of them. Ulead Movie Studio 11.5 didn't handle them very well, no audio. Sony Vegas Pro 8 did OK but I don't have a lot of experience in using that program so far. One thing I did like about Sony is that I could rotate a clip shot in vertical mode and merge it with the rest of the clips shot in landscape mode.

In the past, this site did a review of the Canon TX1 which is a similar P&S camera that happens to also do HD video. There are other new cameras about to come out on the market according to dpreview.com that will also have HD capability. The line between P&S and camcorders is getting blurrier even while the quality of the pictures is getting sharper. LOL!

Can you zoom while shooting video with it?

Harry Palmer
I can't hear it while shooting but when viewing the clip, zoom motor noise is audible. So I minimize use of zoom while shooting. That is probably a good rule to follow even if the camcorder is quiet when zooming.
