View Full Version : Hv20 v HV30

I purchased the HV20 the other day at about $50 more than what it was going for on sale at CC (this seemed like a good deal).
Then, I found out about the HV30. It is $50 more than the HV20.
I don't necessarily understand the differences between the 2.
Should I pay the extra $50 for the HV30?
The HV20 is very scarce now.

keep in mind you may have to pay a 15% restocking fee too

You won't as long as you don't open the box.

I think the only difference is the 30 does 30p.

30p is one internal difference. The HV30 also displays f stops properly (no big deal, but the HV20 didn't display a few of the wider apertures correctly). The HV30's LCD monitor is much brighter and sharper than the one on the HV20 and that is a big advantage for manual focusing and outdoor shoots. The focus wheel is different, but I haven't found anyone that says that the HV30 version of the wheel is distinctly better. The HV30, hot shoe cover has a little rubber leash that keeps it from flying away and getting lost. The bad news is the that cover gets in the way of some external mics. And then there's the flashy black body on the HV30.
All in all, I'd say it's worth $50 more (+ reshipping your HV20).

I thought the HV30 zoom control was more robust like maybe a larger button.
Good luck.

( if that's ok with the rules of this forum )
Thanks.

That's fine with the rules of this forum. By all means tell us what you paid and who you bought it from.
Good luck.

The larger button is actually the new zoom button. It is higher and easier to manipulate.
