View Full Version : Warranty or Not?: Low Cost GS320
freematt
I see that several retailers are offering the GS320 for about $229 or $249(usd) without a USA warranty (I'm in the USA). This would be my first camcorder purchase in quite a few years. Should I risk it at this low price or pay the extra $80 for the warranty?
I'd love to have a GS250 or 400 with a mic port but it's not in my budget. Anybody have recommendations for an alternative with mic, headphone port and 3 ccd at around $500 ? -- Matt

Well, we really have no idea what retailers you are talking about so it would just be a wild guess.
1. They could be PAL units and you live in NTSC country.
2. They could be NTSC units from Japan, with permanent Japenese menus.
3. They could be unit's with no supplied accessories.
4. They could be used units.
5. They could be stolen units.
6. Could be just your basic scam.
I give up guessing....
I have dealt with B&H a few times over the years. I have always had excellent results with them: B&H Photo (http://www.bhphotovideo.com/)
I have also had excellent results with newegg for about three years: NewEgg (http://www.newegg.com/)
There are other good dealers; but I do not have any experience with them in purchasing camcorders.
Please check ResellerRatings (http://www.resellerratings.com/rlist-s1-n1.html) before you make a purchase with any on-line merchant, Enter the store name in the "Enter STORE Name: (i.e. Newegg)" search block.
There are many on-line merchants who are not as honest as their web site might claim.

One seller is Broadway Photo. Comes with the usual accessories and 1 year of warranty (non-USA). I'll have to call them and ask about the Japanese menu and NTSC vs. PAL. Thanks for that info!

 YIKES!!! I guess I learned a valuable lesson. And happily it was before I spent any of my hard earned shekles. I'll definitely make use of those seller ratings as I go forward as I'm wanting to buy a camcorder, mics/transmitters/receiver and fluid head tripod. Thanks.
