SONY R12 is the latest camcorder for 2008. It cost quite alot and it cost around 2,000 AUD dollars.

The cost is because its latest camcorder. it has 10.2 megapixel to take fotos. It has 120gb hard drive built in.

Think carefully.

120GB will give you 7 FULL HIGH DEFINITION of filming with the SONY R12 camcorder. But are you really tempting to film FULL HD for 7 long hours ?

Most of the people filming would only film aprox 30 to 2 hours and allways have been plenty enough. You would someday realise that your hard drive still is half empty and allways is.. You are paying alot of money because you wanted a big 120 hard drive built in the camcorder.

Fact you do realise you can buy a digital camera that has LCD screen on it and does 10.2 megapixel shots to take fotos under 300.00 ? yes its true, You dont expect to pay over 1,000 when you can get it cheaper.

SONY models 10 and 11 has 60gb hard drive built in.
Its 5 FULL HIGH DEFINITION of filming (5 hours of recording) plenty.
Plus your paying far cheaper and lower price on the 10 or the 11 model.

So think again. Do you really need 120GB on a hard drive when most likely you wont ever be using all that?

Think again. the HD camcorder is NOT a storage capacity hard drive. You wont be putting your memories filming kept in the hard drive.. But it will be there just temporary until you put it onto a dvd. Plus surely you wont be filming 7 hours of used and try to manage how you would put 7 horus full hd on a disc in a day? you would be takeing days on end and waste time indeed.

So to highlight it all

SONY R12 is a beautiful camcoreder its just a latest camcorder but does not mean it is a latest HD because the HD remains the same quality for all HD CAMCORDERS. whats its new about the r12 is just because it has a built in digital camera and the hard drive added 120gb

but if you went for the sony 10 or 11 you get all the same stuff but just 60gb hard drive and 60gb is quite alot and even tho you get the sony 10 or 11 when your filming in FULL HIGH DEFINITION i bet you wont be ever be using the full 5hours capacity aniways... you would have a left over big space but at least you went for the cheaper its all to do with money for this tips.

So digital cameras that takes fotos 10.2megapixels you can buy them cheaper under 300.00 now days.

60GB on a HD camcorder is good because it gvies you 5 hours plus you wotn be using all 5 hours aniways wehn your filming. But you have choosen the SONY 10 or 11 model cheaper because you paid it cheaper and give you YET alot of capacity aniways.

Do tell us your tips and why. This will be the best area for people to understand it.

1# So ask yourself again do you really want to spend over or around 2,000 for the SONY R12 camcorder ? just because its latest dosnt mean its better then the rest!!

2# Do you really need all that 120GB hard drive built in ? when most likely you never going to ever be using all that 7 horus capacity!!

3# Do you really need a 10.2 megapixel foto camera built into the SONY R12 ? when you can buy a separate digital camera with the same quality under 300dollars. and not obove 1,000 dollars. Just crazzy.


Remember last thing. this is only tips and truth things.... if you want to save money or want a cheaper deal why not go for the sony 10 or 11? i mean it does the same as the r12 but only your paying smart by paying cheaper otherwise.

Dont expect a discount price on the sony r12 for the next 8 months. If you want the r12 camcorder at a cheaper price like the 10 and 11 model youll have to wait 1 year to see it discounted.

You are misinforming folks with this statement. All HD camcorders do NOT have the same quality. For example, the SR10 uses a 1/5 size CCD. The SR11/12 uses a 1/3 CCD. The SR11/12 produce better video than the SR10.
You seem to be slamming the Sony SR12 lately with multiple posts with the same message. Why?

Well all High Definition Camcorders has the same quality filming. It dosn't mean just because the last years models of HD camcorder either its JVC or Sony or such was dreadfull then what it is today.

HD remains the same in the best high technology there is no such thing about 2008 High Definition filming is better then Hight Definition in 2007.

The HD remains the same there is no such thing about one is greater then the other. All HD camcorders will film in FULL HD and yes the same quality no cheaper and no greater. Apart from adding a few features on the newer camcorders.

NEGATIVE: Ive just realise that if i was to buy a HD camcorder regardless it is a SONY or a JVC or CANON or other ones around you are expecting to buy one of these camcorders because you want and wish to film in total FULL HD yes? well the side down of this news is that by the time you film it and put it onto a blank dvd disc to keep for memories forever the adding it onto a blank dvd will take off the FULL HD quality making it play back standard definition only unfortunaly.

I would have to try to hard to agree that who ever wants to use a HD camcorder for the next 5 years to film family and memories and try store it onto a PC hard drive? what a joke you can nevr store the next 5 years all your FULL HD filming onto a HARD DRIVE on PC. you would need well over 1,000GB hard drive to store anything for the next 5 years.

So ask yourself carefully and say to yourself Do you really need a FULL HD camcorder ? because you want to film things in full hd but what about keeping your memories what you have film onto a blank dvd disc? by the time it loads onto a dvd disc the FULL HD wont be there anymore.

Oh though i heard this unusual BLUE RAY recorders but not all of us in the world has or wants a blue dvd recorder machine player. Because it dosnt contain the everything it would have to offer as in a SD dvd recorder machine where it has SD tuner/plays and records dvd disc and has all the connections available

I have a pioneer dvd recorder its a SD tuner and will record SD onto dvd. I gues SD is alittle better then lower standard i gues but FULL HD is what we are talking about.

So unfortunaly i gues buying a FULL HD camcorder either its older or latest models you will never receive play back full HD onto a dvd disc by the time you load it on a blank disc. Unfortunaly with all the technology out there it becomes slightly abit complication for all of us due to the amount of technology and new stuff never seen and or heard before and so it takes alittle time to edjust and learn everything with the new stuff specialy the FULL HD may be new for all of us or some of us but aventualy it will settle down and the full hd would be a everydays living just like how it used to be with VCR tapes.

But im still buying a full HD camcorder. Im not backing off the sony r12.

I jsut saying that it is not a need to have all that features in the SONY R12 because 1/ your paying a hell of too much as we speak, 2/ you dont need all of that features added when same time it is on the cd that comes with it and a cd software is a hell of a cheaper price then having it on a camcorder. and 3/ well like ive said before 120gb is good but am i going to really be using the whole 120gb in the camcorder? not really by the time i use the camcorder i would notice that i normaly would record about 30 to 2 hours a day or something and you would notice there is a huge blank space there not been ever used...

so i gues when it comes to buying a good quality HD camcorder i look around, I buy smart which means carefully make sure your not spending alot for something thats nothing. So i still go for the 10 or the 11 sony model because 60gb is good.. i mean it gives 5 horus and yet most likely most of you people wont ever be using 5 hours of full HD aniways..... so like i said it would be used like 30 to 3 hours roughly about that and you will notice you have some space left but imagine spending so much for a latest camcorder and reallies later how much spare you have in that hard drive when your never using it but you paid for it.

I gues im just helping people pay fair amount of $$$$$ because it makes no differents either its latest or older mdoel they all going to film full HD you dont need all the little features added when you can make it tricky and smart by later added software to make it look like a pro and yeah the software will do that and a software cd is far far cheaper then having it instored onto a latest camcorder.

I know some may see it negative and some people may see this very true factor.

Well whatever is good for you people i just hope people think carefully before they consider investing a HD camcorder because there are quite alot more you would need then just a camcorder.. Read obove what i meant about keeping your precious filming in FULL HD on a dvd disc when it will not work as you expected it will look good but not FULL hd so you start to wonder is FULL HD any good otherwise because your filming FUL HD but later u want to keep your filming on a dvd disc but later doing that it gets rid of the full HD.

Hard to believe people try save all the memories filming onto a PC hard drive because if your using the camera for the next 5 years you will definitnly need a far far greater HARD DRIVE pc to stored all your FULL HIGH DEFINITION FILMS into it. thats a fact.

Well aniways feel free to give your shout out about it feel free to be negative or positive about what ive said. Everyone to thier own way but my opinion is my own opinion. If only there was a day when all high end quality HD camcorders could be all discounted then we would all be happy. Now days DVD RECORDERS are so cheap that youc an pick one up for just 200.00 or less and 5 years ago it was some what 500bucks.

P.S the truth reason why im saying all this negative points its because 85% of the people comsumers buying HD camcorders they end up been frustrated or because it didn't do what they thought it should do.. So thats why with so much complaints and so on be sure to und unerstand learn more then just the HD camcorder before u buy one.
Dont just learn about the camcorder your about to buy.. Also learn either its going to be good quality onto DVD disc because you dont expect to film things and sdave it allways on a PC hard drive.. Unless of coruse you have the world most greater hard drive ever. Otherwise you must well stick with the digital camcorders because its stress free and no trouble.

It's not about "needing" a 120 gig hard drive. Don't be silly.

It's about proudly leaving the Sony marketing stickers on the side of your SR12 that say "120 gig HD".

I have gotten some "impressed looks" from the ladies when they see my camcorder. It's a nice feeling and worth every penny.

The 10 megapixel sticker is a good self esteem booster too.

Malissa, i hope ur not planning to buy a camcorder from a country that is way behind in technology like Australia .. :)

I also live in Australia and know not to buy from here. I have bought my last HD camcorder from Japan (can also buy from US). Yeah they will be the NTSC versions, but hey thats not a bad thing, besides most ppl prefer NTSC over PAL because the resulting videos are more compatiable with PCs, 60i --> 30p.

Anyways, my point is, dont bother with the $2000 price tag :) Aus is way behind as usual cos we r just too laid back i suppose :P
